WATFORD v MIDDLESBROUGH Vicarage Road Stadium Tuesday 30th August 2022 Kick Off : 2000 BST Note the later kick off for a midweek game due to Sky showing it. This means that no video from the Hive will be possible, but it makes finding a stream more likely. The last of our three game home run, and everyone will be looking for a better result than gained in the previous two. We enter Tuesday's contest in seventh place after collecting nine points from our opening six league games. Middlesbrough, meanwhile, began the season with a six-game winless run in all competitions, with their first five league matches yielding three points. After playing out consecutive 2-2 draws, Boro lost for the second time this season in their most recent away encounter against Reading. However, they bounced back at the weekend, beating Swansea City 2-1 to record their first win of the season, which leaves them in 18th place ahead of Tuesday's contest. Boro will now attempt to win on their travels for the first time this season after collecting one point from their opening three away games. We might hope that some changes to the team are made after our defence really didn't seem to have a happy time Saturday. Up front our Rey Manaj hobbled off clutching his hamstring, so it would be a surprise if he is available. We were hopeful that Sarr and Pedro would show the division how they would take defences apart, but without a better service their potential is somewhat blunted. New loan signing Kortney Hause comes into contention to start tomorrow’s game with Middlesbrough at Vicarage Road (8pm kick off). The 27-year-old defender joined on a season-long loan from Aston Villa last week, and was an unused substitute against QPR on Saturday. Out of contention is striker Rey Manaj, who picked up a hamstring injury during the first half of the game with Rangers and will now be out for a few weeks. Other than that, there are no changes to the squad. Tom Cleverley, Jeremy Ngakia, Imaran Louza, Samuel Kalu and Tom Dele-Bashiru are all ruled out through injury. Striker Keinan Davis has resumed training after being out of action due to illness last week, but tomorrow’s game comes too soon for him. As things stand, both Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr are in the squad with head coach Rob Edwards saying there have been “no new developments” with regard to either leaving the club after both have been linked to moves back to the Premier League.
Pedro and co will be wearing black and white tomorrow.. Last time we did this we won v Millwall in the Slav promotion season .
A minutes applause before kick off tomorrow - for Tommy Carpenter and Vince McNeice who both died recently. https://www.watfordfc.com/news/tribute-tommy-carpenter-1925-2022
Loved watching Vince McNeice who really was a very stylish centre half and not the clogger that many lower league teams had in that era. He was effectively a part timer to start with as he was still doing his national service, and there were some games he couldn't get leave to play in. Hope that if any of you go you will give an extra clap on my behalf.
