Signing Dan James makes no sense to me. He’s not even as good as Lucas. Spurs need quality now not just someone to come in and boost the numbers of the squad.
Interesting development and probably one for the Physio Watch thread, but this would confirm that Skipp is not much closer to returning to action, which is a huge shame. Sarr will probably be on the bench again for Wednesday's cup final and may get a deadline day move on Thursday.
It was clear yesterday the staff were concerned, Bentancur tried telling them he was fine but I think Conte staunchly overruled him and got him off - and rightly so. Hopefully he’ll be alright come Wednesday but if there’s the slightest doubt then don’t risk him, Bissouma can make his full debut.
Basically what happened with Tomiyasu: Paratici got a hook into him to make him keen to join, then looked to spin any other plates to see if there's a gem out there while we have a backup waiting for the call
It appeared to me that Conte was arguing with the spur's medical team to allow Bentancur back on the pitch but the medical guy was saying no. I could be wrong but that was my interpretation.
Maybe he was, I saw it as him having a go at the medical team to get Bentancur off, I could’ve read it completely wrong though. Either way, glad whoever it was that got him off.
I was thinking the same But then, switching 'by' for 'for' sounds like we removed Sarr from the market as a punishment for hitting Bentancur on the head. It's just a poorly phrased sentence. "As a precaution following Bentancur's head injury, Tottenham have removed midfielder Pape Sarr from the market." There. Much better.
I can absolutely get behind this one, very versatile like Perisic albeit a bit more one footed than the Croat. Article mentions he'll be brought in as competition for Emerson. I've been saying for weeks now that I have a feeling one of Emerson or Doherty will leave and if this one goes through, surely that's Doherty done? Having Carrasco, Emerson, Spence and Doherty seems very excessive, unless Conte is channelling his inner Southgate(?).
Carrasco would be a fantastic signing. Massively versatile and can play either side at WB or wide forward. Would be a brilliant signing to cap off our transfer window. Still hoping the rumours about Zabarnyi moving to London is us.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte feels he needs at least two more transfer windows to challenge for the Premier League title. Spurs are level on 10 points with champions Manchester City in the top-flight table after winning three of their opening four games. Conte has made minimal changes to his starting XI so far but thinks Spurs can still strengthen in key areas. "If you compare to last season, we are more complete," said the Italian. "But to reach other teams at the top level, we need time, patience and transfer markets, at least two transfer markets to reach the same level."
I’d agree with that. I think last Jan was about getting an immediate injection of first XI quality to try and get top four - which we achieved. This summer was about plugging holes in the XI and especially squad, whilst also trying to shift deadwood - which we’re doing. Next two will be focused on how the current squad does, how those out on loan do and then assessing who has the mettle to cut it and who doesn’t, whilst also looking to bring in a few good quality players to attack the following season with big aspirations. It’s also promising that Conte’s talking about future windows, there were times last season where it wasn’t completely certain he’d be here when it finished. Club’s in a good place at the moment.
There was a theory doing the rounds in July that Conte already has an eye on another quality bump next January - although it's reasonable to believe that might not be on the cards anymore due to the sheer volume of loans instead of sales this summer
January will be a very interesting market in general coming just after a winter world cup, where their are burn-outs, injuries and 'great ' performances by 'new' stars.
