For the record I think it’s the analysis which is bullshit. I don’t believe that Beale is trying to coach this nuts stuff at all. I ****ing hope not. You’d need a quarterback with a memorised playbook for it to work. And a game which stops and restarts from scratch every ten seconds.

But Beale’s approach is still in its infancy. Interesting to see Villa struggling a bit…but their decline seemed to start last season, before our boy left.

    Okay.
    I repeatedly say. I know nothing about tactics....but I have a prediction.

During thr International break...we will swap to 3 at the back and try and play that for the rest of the season.

It seems logical to me with our signings.
4 CBs ( Dickie, Dunne, Clark-Slater and Balogun)

2 mobile wing backs Paal, Laird...Adomeh and the WestHam guy...who may or may not be real.

And Kakay and Masterson on the bench. ( I suspect Masterson is perceived as back up to Field).

Can't do it sooner than the international break with Slater injury and Balogun lack of match fitness

Jeez Beth, you've really got it in for poor old Lyndon, demoting him to defence <laugh> probably couldn't score an own goal if he tried either, so at least he'd be safe back there

    Thanks Steels...corrected...sorry.

I always put them together in my storytelling of the problems QPR have with facebook.

I do not have it in for Dykes quite as much as others. He works bloody hard...and number of balls he wins in the air, and his layoffs from there are getting better and better.

He will never be a 20+ goal man in our team...as its not quite our style of play.
But he should be getting 10 plus

It will be really interesting to see how Beale plays 3 at the back.
3-4-3 or 3-5-2 or a variation of these?
How will he fit all the attacking players into the line up?
Someone will have to miss out.

I'd prefer us to stay as a flexible 4-3-3.

I honestly can't see where and how he would fit all our attacking players into any formation.
If he goes 3 at the back then I still think he will play the two no.10s and a central striker. Not too dissimilar to what Warburton played. We only have defensive minded wide players so I can't see that natural width being played further forward. That's not a bad thing but I believe 2 central midfielders may sit infront of the back 3 to enable Laird and Paal to create that natural width. All ifs and buts at the moment. Saturday against a very good Watford side worked very well in my opinion. Will be interesting how we play against Hull tomorrow.

That would mean 3-4-3, with the front 3 being Chair and Willock behind a forward.
No room for Roberts or Richards.
I think we'd get another attacking player in if we stuck to 4-3-3.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 3-4-2-1

I honestly think that if everyone was fit , this is the line up he'd pick to start with.

    Dieng
    Dickie Balogun Salter
    Laird Paal
    Field
    Roberts Chair Willock
    New Striker or Dykes

Yeah that's what I said mate.
Still means leaving 2 out of Chair, Willock, Roberts and Richards on the bench, unless one of those plays as the forward up top.

I'm not at all sure about Roberts. He looked good against Charlton, got a good goal. Since then when he's played he seemed to panic at the sight of goal. Hopefully Beale can help him focus, and he gets fully fit quick. Richards maybe a good alternative as a box to box midfielder when he's fit, but we've hardly seen him yet. If Stefan can maintain his recent form he will be hard to displace anyway.. It will be great to have these choices if we can get more players fit.

Not necessarily the 11 I'd pick, just what I feel that Beale would. Willock and Chair are undroppable but will need a rest at some stage and will get injuries along the way.

    Interesting discussions here.

I'd consider dropping Dickie currently. He seems to have very bad concentration and his mind doesn't seem to be on the game enough.

So, I'd have the exact lineup we're starting with today, but with Salter or Balogun in for Dickie.

And when we play weaker defences who we fancy scoring against, I'd drop one of today's midfield, probably Dozzell, in favour of Roberts.

Also, I'd drop Dickie if he doesn't either score or have a cracker of a game without scoring today. Armstrong gets his start next game otherwise.

Be hard to change the current team selections after last night (fitness as the exception of course).
‘Dic & Dun’ had a good game. But can see Balogun and Salter getting minutes if the opportunity arises to rest the former and give the latter game time.
Dozell had one of his best games and needs to keep building. I can see MB giving players their chance if they perform, rather than rotating. Fitness/rest will likely be the only reason to rotate now. If you’re on top of your game you deserve to keep your place - others will have to seize their opportunities to impress when coming on otherwise.
Shocking miss for Dykes but feels like he needs to ‘get back on the horse’. He desperately needs a goal to erase that miss and gain some confidence at least. He’s the one player in a rut right now. Armstrong isn’t the answer yet - he needs to build his game and craft.
Fantastic situation to be in for manager, team and players right now. Amazing what two games can do to a team.

Well, last night Dickie was excellent and Roberts poor when he came on.
Also, the midfield three worked across really well to cover the marauding full backs.

Thought about bringing this thread back, now that we're a few games into the season.

Just on the train back from tonight's game (QPRSWA).

Ilias Chair... what position is he playing? He is allowed to play wherever he wants. Successive managers have been wrongly over-impressed by him, in my opinion. His decision making and physical strength is not good enough to be running the game as a central player.

I'd like to see a manager finally take control over him and dictate that he plays in a specific position with specific instructions in what to do and what not to do. A more disciplined role. There's a lot of wasted energy there, although he can't be faulted for his effort.

Willock and Chair need to be separated a bit, imo. Willock needs to work out right a bit more with Smyth and Chair needs to work left with Paal, with a player in the middle as the channel between (Dozell, Colback)

Ilias Chair is good picking up passes to his feet, as is Smyth. I'd like to see more direct, penetrating passes from the midfield. Dozell is good at that.

When we play Armstrong, he needs the right kind of service, which he's not getting. He doesn't need the ball at his feet with his back to the goal. He needs ground and looped through balls. Otherwise, pass to someone else and let him get in the box for a cross.

When Dykes plays, give him orders to get in the box and give the others orders to cross early.

Arguably, we could have done with either Chair or Willock not starting, especially in the first half where our midfield was overrun. We needed stronger, tougher midfielder in there. But who?
