He did, if he wanted a longer deal with us it should have been sorted after the play off final ask him to delay his break a couple days to sort it out.
I'd rather gamble on a former player who has never managed a team but talks a good game, than go for someone like those mentioned. I'm throwing Paul Cook, the Cowley brothers and Darren Ferguson into that category as well. We need to look at a young, high pressing coach in my opinion. The Germans do this well, picking up the next young coach from their own production line or from Austria/Scandinavia. Our own version of Daniel Farke or Thomas Frank. The only English league coaches I'd be interested in off the top of my head are Liam Manning, Neil Critchley or Mark Robbins. The idea of appointing a name like Dyche or Warnock would seemingly go against the DOF approach and need huge compromise which would inevitably cause friction down the road.
I'm looking at this a different way. Yes Neil got us out of League One but surely any half decent coach could have done that with the squad we had. Lee Johnson looked like doing this until he had a ****ing meltdown after Christmas. I wouldn't say we were fantastic towards the back end of the season yes we went a long time unbeaten but we relied on a hell of a lot of late goals to accomplish this. We've had a lucky win at Stoke and a win against Bristol City in a game that could have went either way and 2 draws at home to teams who ain't going to pull up any trees in this league this season. Yes losing the manager is a blow and yes he was doing a decent job but it's not like we've just lost Guardiola or early 2000's Mourinho. We've only lost Alex Neil For me I say **** him he's made a decision based on financial and security reasons fair enough to him but we are a club on the up and stoke are a club in my opinion going the other way. From a footballing point of view hes committed career suicide for a bit of extra dosh and a few more years on his contract. Again fair play to him and I wish him no hard feelings end of the day he got us out that **** hole last season. He's been here 5 minutes the club is bigger than him and similar to players we will get someone else in who we will get behind and see if he's any good. Football is a circus these days We've just got to get on with it.
The more I think about it the more pissed off I am. Not just because Neil leaving but the fact he thinks that less of the club and players that he would leave less than 24 hours before a game. For me, he's as bad as a player who goes round kissing the badge then ****s off as quick as he can
All as maybe. But managers are not daft. Yhey eill look from the outside and see, new inner or not, manager after manager leaving. They aren't supporters like us, they are contractors looking out for themselves. And if they are in a position to expect other offers they'll wait for them.
Having thought about this a lot since the news broke I have decided the following. Neil has gone Thanks for getting us promoted The club and players need our support more than ever now I will be there tomorrow, shouting, clapping and singing, the bloke in the dugout won't change that If the players leave everything on the pitch and give there absolute all, I will support them Because despite who is in that dug out I will always be Sunderland till I die
It's quite possible AN wanted a rolling contract so he could leave when he wanted for a job nearer his family
Far too many people blaming the club for this. The bloke was happy to sign a rolling contract with a director of football making the signings, and there’s not a chance this wasn’t sounded out before O’Neill was sacked. He’s ****ing of the night before a match, he’s the cûnt. I’ve got nowt against Stoke City but fûck me if he thinks he’s better off there then other than family reasons he wants sectioning.
I'm only saying that the uncertainty won't help. Apart from that, he has to look for himself as we all do.
just for your info, i have no love in with them i do however have only one club i love, their mistakes cost us lots in every way. BUT when Ellis closed the chq book, and wanted out, they were the only ones who put their hand up. yes they ran out of money and yes they ****ed up over Ross, Lee Johnson, and basic communications with the fans. im glad they basically have gone, but if today is owt to go by, we could see lots unrest, cos Doddsy and Proccy dont have a clue.
I get ya mate, just think he’s really happy here and he’d be lucky to get a better place to grow imo.
