So if a rolling 1 year deal allows him to speak to anyone at any time and both him and the club are happy with this then we should have a list of ready made replacements lined up to slot straight in. Mind you, we should also have a longer contract already drawn up ready to offer him as well.
Meant to be catching up on work today, why did i look on here Refresh every 2mins until we hear from the club now
Seems like the club decided to hold off all contract talk with players or manager until the window closes, which is fair enough. probably weren't expecting a manager to be sacked this early.
I am holding on to what prehab said about unless the club implodes overnight there is no chance, I'm hoping Alex is in sorting out a longer contract to put this type of rumour to bed for a while.
I'm holding out on the hope there's no way he'd have taken TRAINING if he was considering leaving. I do think this is all to get a new deal with us. I think the interest is genuine. And I do think he will talk to them But talking to them may be (a) allowed due to the terms of his contract and (b) just a courtesy from him to not burn bridges with a club he may want to manage one day. But as I was saying at 9am this morning - all the signs were pointing towards the interest and possibility being genuine
Oh yeah totally agree, but it could all just be part of negotiating a new contract here. You can’t negotiate unless you know what the other party are offering.
There's no longevity in this business marra.....if he's leaving us to go to Stoke because he doesn't want to uproot his family, what's he going to do next year when things don't go to plan and Stoke sack him? It's ****ing ridiculous. Thousands of families get moved around with the breadwinner's work all the time. He's chosen a fluid, but lucrative, career path. He's already been in Scotland,Norwich,Preston and us.....it goes with the job,a bit like being in the Army.Kids, particularly younger ones are very adaptable,I don't get it!
Yeah, I think the training thing suggests he's staying and don't forget, everything we are talking about is based on whispers that SSN and The Athletic have turned into fact. The club have said nothing Having said that, these whispers come from somewhere and pushing the PC back 5 hours suggests something is going on
Aye I'd hate to see it but if he did leave I can half expect him to come out with some of these as reasons, and say he only ever saw the Sunderland job as a short term job and he did what he was brought in to do etc etc - spin it to say he was only ever going to be here a short time.
Well,KLD and the Board have some explaining to do if AN thinks he has to pull a stunt like this in order to get the deal he wants.
This is so absolutely baffling that it seems like there must be something in it. Why would we give permission if Stoke asked unless Neil is looking to go? If it's about money, then what stops him demanding another pay rise in 3 months when Bournemouth or Brentford show interest? If it's about power, then why did he come here in the first place? Here's my idle speculation - Speakman has his vision for the club which includes the style of football we play. Neil is not playing that style (3 at the back, no wingers) and is trying to force the club into buying players he wants, playing Clarke/Gooch/O'Nein out of position. Speakman is refusing to budge, signing more wingers and players that suit the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 that he wants the club to play.
