The reality is we look shot through as a top 4 force.

When one team leader is questioning another on the pitch you know its badly wrong.

What gets me is vvd had a 10% chance to put Zaha off last week and this week gomez had a 30% chance to put rashford off a bit.

Both just stopped and let the run happen in on goal to set themselves.

I do not belive either would have done this no matter how tired at the end of last season.

Major looks in the mirror all about but the senior staff need to sit down and take a long hard look at themselves and the squad.

    A) even garry neville called it. While he was really just bigging up utd he was right that we are simply not getting into sides and the best players we have in salah and Diaz are not being driven I to the danger zones. They are second fiddle to deluded runs by full backs and James.milner on ethe assumption nobody would bother mark them

    B) we are talking no buys. Reality check is henderson looks a 30min player now. He looked about 40 compared to the average enough utd players. Milner is toast, real slow and not a cm. Fabinho is slowing up. Thiago is injury prone, ox is a goner, keita wants out. Elliott is a winger.

It's blindingly obvious a real.cm is needed and the season start is a massive wake up call that should change minds.

    C) klopp needs to tell his senior players its not actually good enough to showboat and Hollywood. If a player pulls up after trying offside and let's a guy run on alission he should be up out of dugout screaming. If someone runs forward and walks back over the course of 2mins like.milner, trent etc. Well... they should be reamed.

Klopp finished 2nd with Dortmund in 2014 and then the following year they were very poor for the first half of the season and after Klopp announced that he was leaving they improved to finish 7th.

I’m not saying that’s going to happen here however unless we get proper replacements in before the transfer window ends we could end up around the 5th-7th position by season end.

I think Manchester United wanted to win more that us. We are now playing catch up. It is not over until it is over.

We are back to where we were under previous managers when we had a few decent players and the rest of the squad was average. Remember the days of Fowler/ MacManaman teams. We are at the beginning of a slippery slope and if the owners/Klopp don't make at least 4 decent signings in the next 12 months the slide will continue. We are very poor in midfield and need 2 proven players aged about 24/25 and possibly a youngster like Bellingham, plus we need another attacker to replace Bobby who moves as if he is on a zimmer frame now.

No doubt we missed Mane and the sending off of Nunez and injuries has not helped.

I thought Jurgen Klopps post match interview was very strange. Maybe he was watching a different game but he is usually more honest when we play badly, and we were bad last night. There is a lethargy and lax attitude from a lot of the players. They were losing so many 50:50 challenges because United players wanted it more. It was the same against Fulham. I think Jurgen is really covering for Fenway who are not backing him enough in the transfer market. Sure, they stumped up for Nunez but only after losing Mane , Divok, Minamino and others.
This is not the first time this has happened, remember the worries we had about CM cover when Lovren was not replaced. Que the rollcall for injuries and desperation coverage for much of the season. We simply do not have a competitive midfield now, even if all the sick notes were fit. FSG have not backed Jurgen, he knows it and we know it. I know we are only three games in but the signs were there last season and as others pointed out, our results were better than our performances. We are not in a crisis but we are in a difficult situation and anyone with a decent CM for sale will know that we are in trouble now where we could have picked up some decent players earlier on

this team were 2 goals away from winning 4 trophies 3 months ago ffs

we’ve had a poor start but talking like this is a team that will finish mid table.

away to pumped up newly promoted team always tough.

home to palace and dominated the game just couldn’t score then down to 10 men

then a poor performance away to a United team that had to win.

all 3 games with a diff cb and cm partnership due to injuries.

Let’s see where we are after next 3 games and we’ve got a couple more players available from injury.

I agree - with a full team, we are still formidable. However, we are heavily reliant on Thiago next to Fab in midfield. Until he returns, we will continue to struggle IMO.

Anyways, I have my theories but I don't think all is well behind the scenes at the club.

I think this doom and gloom is largely overblown. We simply had a sluggish start to the season, with injuries and suspensions not helping. I can definitely see ourselves in top 4 or 6 after the next 3 matches. Like some of the teams at the top are in a false position we are too. With all the key players back we should be able to challenge City.

We're up against a team where we needed nothing less than perfection in order to compete. The fact we have dropped 7 points already is simply awful.

Now never say never and a good run will certainly change things around but we really should not be in this position. We need to look at why we have so many injuries so early in the season, why is Klopp choosing Nat Phillips over Gomez? why drop Fab to play Hendo and Milner? Were these decisions made for him by the medical team or did he genuinely think they were good decisions?

The team look leggy already and we have multiple injuries. Out of those injuries, who are the ones who genuinely will help us? Thiago and Jota?

We need goals and Jota definitely will be crucial in that. Had he been available (or Nunez) we would be sitting on 9 points no doubt in my mind. We are creating chances but not putting them away. That will change in the next few weeks.

Possibly. But vs United, there was a bigger structural issue where we literally had no midfield. The space ahead of the CBs was so vast, and the attackers in particularly Bobby had dropped so deep that we literally had no one up front. Combined with the fact that the midfield practically gave the ball away with almost every touch, we were always under pressure. Not sure Jota or Nunez would have helped.

Hmm. Not so sure. Maybe against Palace, perhaps. But against both Fulham and United I thought we were probably fortunate to walk off 1-0 at halftime. In both those games, we were totally outfought and outthought, especially in midfield. And let's not kid ourselves - that first-half battering at Fulham included Thiago in our so-called best midfield. Not doing a Cassandra here, but not doing a Pollyanna either: we have a veterans' parade in midfield, and teams who fight us with our own pressing fire are presenting us with questions that we don't seem to be able to answer, and that in turn is highlighting deficiencies in attack (Bobby) and Defence (Trent) that are not usually this amplified when we're winning. Nunez and Jota coming back will be helpful, obviously, but it will be like the impact we had getting Robbie Fowler back unless something major happens to that midfield.

I tend to concur, but I have no idea why it's happened. Our collective spirit has been faultless for so long.

I think Klopp has been given more power as part of his new contract. And we know Klopp is an emotional guy whereas previously, we were run by a collective group with equal votes, with decisions based on logic.

    Purely speculation of course ...
