Does it not worry anyone that he doesn't seem to want to come back? Read in the Daily Mirror today that he wishes he left for first team football earlier in his career. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is he not one of the key players in our team spirit?

I'm guessing he's a bit put out that he wasn't straight back in the team when he recovered from injury despite getting the no.1 jersey.

Last season he let Krul take the No.1 spot till the end of the season as he was in good form. Guess he regrets that now.

Not really, I'm happy for him. He'd just be getting more unhappy and probably detrimental to the dressing room. I think he expected another season or two before giving up the top spot though, which is why he is remorseful now.

Not massively. Our team spirit still seems good, and although I'd love him to have one great last season for us, it's not happening. I'd be happy for him to leave when he wanted. Loyal as they come.

How the **** do we know? I love Harps as much as the next man, but he waited and waited until a better keeper in Given moved on, then unfortunately found himself behind another (younger) top keeper in Krul. If he wants first team football before he's done, now is the time to move.

No he's a millionaire who has sat on his arse for 10 years making bloody good money as a stand in. Never had ANY ambition . Decent keeper but NOT Krul standard

That's like saying "How the **** do we know Nolan was key in our team spirit?" Idiot.

How is it? Harps has been gone for two weeks now and we've won both league games, if anything the evidence is to the contrary. I don't sit in that dressing room and neither do you, we heard interview after interview about Nolan (and we've hardly missed him have we?), all we know about Harps is he loves his darts...

Whilst I see what you're saying, that's a tad harsh on him. He was patient and wanted to stay loyal to a club that gave him a chance in one of the best leagues in the world.

To be fair there hasn't been a downturn in team spirit since either Nolan left or Harper went on loan. I think the point that we can't know their effect on morale is a fair one.

Whilst I agree one man doesn't make a dressing room, you can't deny, like Barton and Nolan, he was an influential figure in that dressing room. So it is likely he still has some influence over players, however, whether that be good or bad, is yet to come forth. Just because reports show our club is rosy and looking like it's stable, it doesn't mean it actually is, as this is after all, Newcastle.

Lets not beat around the bush, he is average at the best. The goal Nolan scored past him on his Brighton debut was awful awful goalkeeping. Always been good back up but not good enough for first choice in the Premiership.

I can't deny it, but I can't confirm it either. I don't have a clue. Last season we automatically assumed that all the English players created the team spirit that saw us promoted and kept us midtable, but theres no guarantee thats correct. Certainly watching the likes of Jonas and especially Coloccini this season that 'spirit' may have been more damaging than beneficial, and with no particular disrespect to Nolan (I liked the chubby fella) theres a difference between an ex-Champions League Argentinian international as captain and a porky ex Bolton player, and we've seen that on the pitch.

We really don't know what impact Steve Harper has on the dressing room, but I doubt him leaving will have a negative effect as I've no doubt he'd stay in touch will Krul, Soderberg etc anyway.

Steve Harper mate. Steve Harper who has stayed extremely loyal to this club for 15 or so years. always gave 100%, never spat his dummy out when Given moaned if he didn't get his place back after injury. One of the best servants we've ever had. That Steve.

Probably not as good as Krul, but to be treat like this is disgusting.

he's a decent person and i'd be happy for him if he was to go to a team where he was first choice.
