Tbh it's a reflection on Klopp. Quality manager that he is, he's never been as focussed on defence. When he came in, he left that as his last priority and took years to address, then relied on individual talent brought in and brought through to do the job.
For all the plaudits he gets for developing players, he's found wanting when it comes to developing the likes of Trent and VVD.
