Woo hoo a player throwing his toys out to join us <diva>

Not always a good thing in the long run tbf <laugh>

Nevertheless it makes me wonder what conversations are going on between Ten Hag and Antony if he's keen on the move.

    Ajax Manager on Antony

"We are playimg Champions League football. I don't think Manchester United are playing Champions League football"

The irony here. Firstly, it's your predecessor who's responsible for Ajax playing in the CL. And secondly that same predecessor chose to leave Ajax to come to Man Utd, without the CL.

You mean like the one I put three posts above? <laugh>

If their board follow the manager then he stays. If they think his head's gone and it's best to cash in, then we have a chance.

Ornstein also reporting it. Everyone else then just regurgitates them two.

Not sure we'll get him but it's good to see the player wants to come and is pushing for a move. He missed training and was left out of the squad for their game today.

Way better when a player actually wants to come to United.

A good take on the situation from Sky Sports -

"We know, when Klopp's Liverpool get going, that they, along with City, are the benchmark in this league. They are the ones to beat, they are the ones that rewrite the records.

"With United, we need to have an idea of what Ten Hag's team is going to be. How do they react when they get a victory? Can they go on runs.

"What I'm trying to underline here is that we need to remember that these two sides are on completely different stages of their evolution, comfort and adjustment to their manager. I think ultimately what Ten Hag wants to see tonight is his United fundamentals, his style of play coming out on the pitch, regardless of the result.

"I think for Klopp, ideally he wants his players to show that, even though Nunez is suspended and they've got a host of injuries, that they are still, along with City, the team to fear in this league."

I think you probably will get him because Hakim Ziyech was in Amsterdam last night for talks with the Ajax board about returning on loan from Chelsea with the option to buy - he is seen as the replacement for Antony, and wants to return to the club. Ziyech is also still a fan's favourite at Ajax. Whether 80 million is too much for Antony remains to be seen - he is not as consistent as Lisandro Martinez at double the price.

How's it going CH? I think we last spoke when Ten Hag was being touted as our next manager.

Tbh £80m feels like a premium price here. And what's worse is I think we'll end up paying more if we're successful in buying him.

BUT we have to trust Ten Hag here. That's really what this is about. And if he sees him as a priority and has worked with him then we have to trust the bloke to come good. It's also why I'm taking the media agenda against Martinez's height with a pinch of salt.

This has been my point all along… if we are going to be spending this type of money, why not buy Premier League proven players instead? It’s too much money to be spending on players from other leagues which we know will take time to get used to the English game.

I’m not saying that buying English players is a magic solution because our experience there shows that it isn’t. Harry Maguire, AWB, Shaw, and the list goes on with players that just never kicked on. However, that still doesn’t justify the excessive amount that we are spending on these players.

Ultimately, we have become desperate. This is the only word that describes these late moves that then force our hands to pay premium. It’s the same old United spending all over again. Hopefully this time we will see ETH will make the most of it with a definitive plan to bring the best out of the team.

Hi Treble. The inside story is that Ajax are pissed off with Erich ten Hag's behaviour here in pushing so hard this late in the transfer window for a star player, had the move come at the beginning of the window Antony would probably have gone for 60-70 million. Also Ajax has to pay a percentage to Sao Paulo of 20% of whatever deal comes along.

But we went in early for Timber and they basically talked him out of the move iirc.

I heard Antony was always in Ten Hag's plans, we were interested from the start... but obviously no offer made until last week so I get it.

The Timber thing was a lot down to that bitter twat Van Gaal.

He has no influence over Antony so he can't threaten him with being dropped by Holland, thankfully!

We should have secured this sooner though, no doubt, as he was always talked about as a target.
