A quick look to see previous results shows, unless I am mistaken, that this will be our first senior meeting with them. I found two results involving our academy in the Football League Trophy, which shows a 1-0 win for us (2017) and a 4-0 win for them (2018), so let’s hope Ralph doesn’t rest too many of the senior squad, although I am sure there will be a certain amount of rotation. A search for famous fans of Cambridge threw up a handful of names that mean absolutely nothing to me, and their most famous previous player is Dion Dublin, a man who is now more famous for selling houses, in Homes Under the Hammer. I did the match day thread for this round, last season, which gave us our record high score in the defeat of Newport County. I don’t expect lightning to strike twice, with regards to the score, but hope we will be in the draw for the next round, without too many worries in this game. Vamos Los Santos!
I scarcely know the names of our present first eleven so am expecting to see a whole load of strangers. Should be nailed on win, but this is Saints we’re talking about
I’m excited to see the lineup. Should be a good chance to get some kids out. No idea who they pick and don’t care. If they go strong then we should win and can work on cohesion and if we rotate then we can get all giddy about some players we don’t know much about! Win win!
Cambridge United v Southampton (19:45) Referee = DAVID ROCK Assistants = Michael Chard and Garry Maskell Fourth Official : Alan Young
Don’t want to upset the officials. Might end up between a Rock and a Chard place. I would grab my coat but it’s too hot for one.
Would really like to see Diamond Edwards or Dom Ballard get a chance as opposed to giving minutes to Walcott or Redmond who are likely going out the door
100%. I'd like a strong team out as cups are important for us, but no harm in including 1 youngster in te starting 11 against a league 1 side. Certainly need a couple on the bench to bring on if we are comfortable
A good opportunity to field some youngsters. So it will be the 1st team then. What age level is below our young whippersnappers, under 14's?
They have a habit of knocking bigger teams out of cups, so one to be wary of. But should be a good game
As strong as possible please. Firstly while the skates are still in it we've every chance of drawing them. Second gives the team another competitive game to gel together
First away game of the season. Looking forward to heading back to The Abbey for the first time in nearly 30 years.
This is the first ever meeting between the sides, annoyed I can't go. Ralph will go fairly strong but he'll also rotate. It would be really stupid to risk KWP for example given our lack of fit full backs.
