Can't really use the reported fee as a reason why it won't happen. We have no idea what sort of money SR are willing to invest. They may well be willing to pump a fair bit in, at least for the first season, but just don't want to weaken their hand by telling fans to expect big transfers.
The intriguing implication is that we value this guy at €35m but not Broja. Unless Chelsea want even more than that / were suggesting he wasn’t for sale. Or maybe he want much higher wages or something
And so long as they have the liquidity (and there are no real concerns there), it's hard to imagine that the players we're signing this summer will, collectively, be worth less this time next year (or the year after, or the year after that). Even if some of your wonderkids fall flat, you don't need that many successes to break even. It's tricky to get into too much financial peril when you're buying young players with a very good pedigree, especially when their wages are likely to be lower than old, 'proven' players.
It makes sense that those funds are there given that we spent 10m (rising to 14) on a promising central midfielder (non priority position) with no senior games I wonder if it just happens to be a coincidence that all the transfers so far are at the “old” 15m mark
"Yep, you'll see, this lot will be no different than Gao, do everything on the cheap and we will have to sell our crown jewels just to update the screens at St Mary's. Until Ralph is out we are doomed" I can imagine at least 2 posters on here have said that.
Don't worry tom there will be stumbles on the path to the sunlit uplands that those with a negative agenda will seize on with much wailing and knashing of teeth.
I’m beginning to understand why Elon Musk wanted to pull out of the Twitter deal. I have seen two fake tweets just this afternoon - one pretending to be sky sports saying Ramos to Newcastle was done and one pretending to be Fab Romano with done deal for southampton Not the first fake Fab tweet I have seen this summer. Then there were also a couple of fake TalkSport ones for us. One was for a Dortmund attacker and another was I think Kalajdzic. But might have been someone else Some people really have nothing better to do (he says - rambling on a saints forum)
If there were concerns about his attitude and application (which there were) then I don’t see why they’d consider going back to him apart from it being a popular one with fans. Also he’s almost certainly getting paid well by Chelsea. I’m sure this would be a cheaper transfer when factoring contract.
I don’t think it is a guarantee that he is well paid at Chelsea by footballers standards as he signed his contract at 19 after one year at Vitesse There is someone on Saintsweb who seems to be semi ITK who thinks we still want him and that the rumours of him falling out with Ralph are nonsense. But if there are concerns over attitude and application that would explain a cap on the max fee we would want to spend. But that said - how can be possibly know the attitude and application of Ramos?
What were the concerns about his attitude and application? I heard murmurings but assumed it was all hearsay.
