Morning all. Overcast now and there was a little rain overnight again. It should help to see the fireworks go ahead tonight, but everywhere is still tinder dry. It is one of the odd public holidays today that we get in France, celebrating a religious festival in a secular country. The supermarkets in town revert to a half day opening and no one complains that they are stopped from having an afternoon outing to a shopping mall. A nice steady plod today with a choice of things that need attention, such as a plumbing joint that needs a fourth go at preventing a slow seepage. My bit to save water. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. Early start for Mme's weekly blood test. Storms and some rain in the offing this morning, but we will see. I have been reading that in order to get a paper delivery boy a newsagent is paying £60 for a five day week. Rather different to the 10/- I used to get for a 7 day week. Of course things are different now. I could go and watch Watford for 1/- or less, whereas a trip to Fulham for an under 16 year old can be £70. Life seems very strange sometimes. Have a good day everyone.
I must say it is good to have 'normal' temperatures again. We sat out for lunch yesterday with no sun shades umbrellas and the like ,..a lightly cloudy day with a gentle breeze.
Rains here too, later than normal but not too heavy and it's been prolonged. Just what the scorchingly dry countryside needs so it can slowly try to soak it up.
Morning all. A little more overnight rain, although I didn't hear it. The temperature is far better now and the fan at the bottom of the bed is no longer required. Violent storms down south, but although they are forecast for here they are very gentle really. please log in to view this image Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. A decent day in prospect, with a comfortable temperature of 27°C. Glad to say Mme is making progress a month after she returned home with her new hip. Today she put the sofa bed away without any help, bending and lifting as required. Although this may seem a small thing it is another step in her regaining confidence and also her balance without the assistance of the arm crutch. Another two weeks of daily injections, then a trip back to see the consultant, and fingers crossed life will return to normality. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. Quite comfortable outside today, just right for some gardening, except I have to do the weekly shop. Mme is retaking control of the kitchen, so I now have lists of things to replace that I don't know where to find them in the supermarket. The cafe at the supermarket always does a brisk trade on a Friday as people combine their shopping and having a midday meal. If you wish to be in and out quickly, start your shop at noon, it is quieter, Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. Sunshine and showers are forecast, which will save me from the watering can. It does look as though since the temperature has dropped my runner beans are starting to set, so I think cologne was right about bees not flying if it becomes too hot. I probably will not get many now, but will enjoy those that do grow. Although the surface of the ground is damp now, put a fork into it, and a couple of inches down it is bone dry. I am glad I am not trying to produce goods for the commercial market. Have a good day everyone.
Good Afternoon All... Much the same here in Hue, some proper tropics rain in the middle of the afternoon. Our driver had to stop for twenty-five minutes and we couldn't see across the river even while stationary. I have to say that Vietnam is well worth the trip, go if you can. Love the people, the food, the architecture, the rich history, the ethnic diversity, and the absence of bitterness, perceived or otherwise, following the "American War" as it is (rightly) called here. We visited three families of different social standings and had a wonderful time, culminating in a traditional foot bath and a fantastic meal. An outstanding day. Unfortunately the Deet hasn't quite done it's job properly: we've been munched. Ho hum.
Deet is the generic name for mosquito repellent. Munched means having been bitten. We also wash in citronella soap. Alas... Thought you'd get this as a Scot.
Alas we seem to have left the Avon spray, as recommended by the Scottish RFU for keeping midges at bay, back in Blighty. That stuff certainly works back home.
Have had more than enough experience of mozzies as an Aussie - where there are only two known repellents that work. The first is a camp fire on which to burn dry cow pats & the second a skinful of Bundaberg rum. I can attest to both.
