My daughter went to a fancy prep school before she reached 5 and state nursery age (believe it or not, around that time -2000 - it was cheaper than childminders). Practically three-quarters of the parents were farmers and landowners. I took her to a birthday party for one of her classmates at some country house the size of Southfork during the Foot-And-Mouth crisis. There must have been 30 big 4x 4's on the grounds: Toyotas, Mercedes, Jeeps, Hyundais, Mitsibushis, Suzukis, Audis.... and every one of them had a 'Buy British Beef - Save Our Farmers!' sticker on them.
That's the point, Pomps, I didn't see one Land Rover, just rows of parked foreign 4x4's. Their sense of entitlement is outstanding. I went for a pint with one of them later (we were quite friendly - he was a good laugh and supported Liverpool), but he never stopped rattling on about how subsidised the railways were and how he never used them. ironic as he'd told one of the other parents he was on £30k a year subsidies from the EU, and this was 22 years ago.

Hmm, as hopeless and feckless as they are, it looks like it's fair to say that the politicians have a slightly better focus on the issues and solutions than the resident lefties on here do.
