Alt: He was a headless chicken for about 10 minutes prior to his sending off. I said to the wife (no) about 15 seconds before his foul that he was a red card waiting to happen. I'm not slagging him off, and I want him to be the player we know is in there but he's gormless sometimes. Hopefully he'll learn.
I try not to mate but sometimes I let myself down . Not even a relegation battle but we are already gone! Madness this team had more heart, fight and togetherness than any team we have seen in a long time? Back to Keanes first couple of seasons? When that second went in last night most the teams we have had for the past decade or more would have been beat by 4 or 5! There is no way we would have gotten 3 points from Bristol after going behind a few year ago they had their little spell and took the lead and we just got on with it and put them under pressure, could see a winner coming really we had them back to the wall. I'm not the best neutral fan don't really keep an eye on leagues and teams not concerning us, but I am guessing most those teams we have played so far are good championship teams? Sheff Utd pushing for top 2, others pushing for automatic?
I agree mate he was doing some niggly silly fouls, he reacted without thinking in a split second for the red and could see by his face he knew it. But you are right he was being a bit rash before that!
RE: niggly fouls, he won the ball in one of them and it was a shocking decision to blow for a freekick.
My frustration with Dan Neil wasn't the miscontrol, nor even the decision to bring the lad down. He kinda had to do that once he'd cocked up. My frustration was the poor decision making in trying to turn the player quickly rather than play it simple. You can't do that, as the last man, in any competition, let alone playing in the second tier. As others have said he will learn from it. But he needs to learn quickly if he's going to be starting in defensive midfield for us. As I've seen him get caught in our final third at least 4 times this season. And it will keep costing us unless he stops. Its the same with Patterson. Wonderful shot stopper and will be a cracking keeper. And he's probably going to be brilliant dealing with crosses in the air. What I think we are seeing is again poor decision making and perhaps second guessing himself about coming or staying, which then creates the uncertainty which results in problems. If we were in League One I'd be wanting to start them both to continue their development, as both could be Premier League players. And perhaps we are confident enough that keeping them in the side this year will still result in easily staying up. My fear is that wins are going to be a LOT harder to come by than many think. And we need to limit the cheap goals we give away. So far Patto and Neil are hardly to blame for "lots" of cheap goals, but the signs are there that they could be unless they can both start making better decisions. The flip argument of that is better decision making comes with confidence. And confidence comes from starting regularly. Either way they're both going to be great players for us one day.
I can't see Bristol City or QPR finishing in the top half. Coventry looked very good and I've had them down as an outside chance of promotion. Sheff Utd will be up there. When that second goal went in right at the start of the second half, I thought if we could keep it to 3, we'd take that and move on. I was wrong to doubt them and I'll not do it again now. They've got so much heart and fight in them, this is all we've ever asked for and now we've got it so let's just roll with it and see where it takes us. FTM
He won the ball brilliantly on both BUT he has a flaw in his tackling technique where he then scissors round with his other foot, which almost always takes the legs of the player and makes it look a foul. Not only that but I'm pretty confident it will get him into more red card trouble if he doesn't fix that technique. Let's not talk about O'Nien
Wouldn’t be shocked if we have to wait till the deadline for a few, makes for an exciting day Atleast
Be such a shame if that happened, we have a decent squad and needs only two or three quality players (preferably experienced) to turn us into a really good championship side. If we decide to wait until the last minute, we could pay the price in points....doesn't make sense to me...I have a feeling AN thinks the same way
Agreed, a lot of it is out of our control if the selling club won’t release until they have their targets in place, agree with southern A’s view that we need the window shut before the season opener ideally
Poor defending lack lustre/slow transfers (yet again) for a club with our support what else do you expect I worry if or when that first home win will come, apart from Ellis where are the signings Stoke have made about 12.
Funny. Lee Hemdry said that. Yet he hadn’t actually committed a foul in the entire game. He was penalised twice for winning the ball. The ref also gave us 3 throw ins when Sheff U players made identical challenges
And there’s the negative one. The person who appears to thrive on us losing Simms, Clarke, Roberts, Ballard, Alese. Or did you forget about the others
both times he won the ball he also scissored with his other leg to take the guys legs out. Would have been great tackles 15 years ago (and I'd say they still are). Modern day though they're asking to be punished.
Monty,I know you're fishing as you always do,but you well know that signings aren't about volume....they're about getting the right people, on the right deal for the right money. If we've learned nothing else in the last 10 years,it's that. As the clock ticks down to the window close, activity will ramp up and I'm sure we'll bring in the best we can for the few positions we need.
That’s two red cards he’s gotten away with this season if you also count the tackle on the Coventry player. Needs to work on his tackling and calm down.
