Shota said no more back before Saturday so no Sinik or Longman. Would like to know more about the Seri injury considering some here said he might be fit last weekend but he won’t be involved a week on.
Dont think acun is going to make any transfers untill the last week of the window so that we can get a better deal on prices the next few games might be difficult without anyone coming in and the injuries
Shame we can't get any attacking players in before the next game, we're already really short in areas and now with Allayahs injury we don't have many, if any options out wide. Not sure what Shota will do next game but I'm guessing he'll switch up formation again and go back to a 532.
For me, he needs to stick with the 4 at the back and just replace Allahyar with Williams or Wilks. We look so much better with the 4 and the aforementioned will want to prove why they should be considered hopefully.
The four at the back means that we have wingers in front of the full backs, which prevents opposition dominating the flanks. Everything is forced through the middle, which means easy pickings for Alfie Jones and Regan Slater. The only strange thing I've noticed from watching our games so far, you can see that the full backs tuck in when out of possession and the wingers drop back, making almost a back six. That led to the goal yesterday, because Lewie Coyle was too far over and Allahyar had been skinned. Not Lewie's fault of course, but it's something we'll need to work on and it's a nice idea for stifling top opposition when we're going to be out of possession a lot. I have to say I'm really impressed with the progress we're making, even after four games there's clear improvement.
They had a corner late on... Coyle noticed nobody was picking up their man on the far post so essentially ended up our left back for a couple of minutes before he could get back across... I've no idea where Elder was while that was happening. They switched it to their left after the corner was cleared and suddenly we had two 'randoms' trying to stop their attack down the left wing. Not Coyle's fault, and good on him for picking up the spare man, but it just struck me as a bit poor from an organisational point of view. The back 6 you mention definitely seems to happen. It invited pressure onto us having so many so deep, but we did look comfortable enough in dealing with it to be fair. When needs must etc. With the players out at the moment and those coming back in you'd have to say we should only get better. Carving out results as the 'inferior' team in the way that we have done is impressive. Lucky to an extent, but impressive. With the way Tufan, Tetteh and Oscar are starting to play together my only real concern is how shaky we sometimes look at the back right now. As we start to dominate more it should become less of an issue.
They both looked like they had a point to prove to be fair. I'd lean towards Williams, but would be happy with either if it meant keeping the formation and everyone else where they seem to perform the best.
Not slagging Wilks off, I just think Williams is a safer bet in that position, particularly if he needs to defend a bit too
What led to the goal was the gap between Ali and Coyle. They were tighter together second half so Burnley didn't get through as much. Narrow back 4 with the wingers tucking in was the cornerstone of that defensive performance for me.
Well he might play 46 games but you've got to say its highly unlikely. Just seems odd that we keep saying we need lots of cover for a long season but to me only have one striker who looks like the classic powerful centre forward who will score and win headers for others to benefit from (as Oscar did last night). Really don't see Allahyar or Tetteh as like for like with Oscar and I thought Dervisoglu was more a 10?
It's the exception rather than the rule for anyone to play every minute in a season. That said Oscar, Tetteh, Halil, Longman and Ali can all play as a central forward, despite all having slightly different attributes.
Given that we're in the process of signing Woods as we speak, and was at the game with Acun - and Shota confirming we are trying to get Halil and Pelkas in, I don't think that's true. I just think they'll be done when they can get them done.
It was Allahyar who just completely switched off and let his man go romping off down the wing. Was too busy watching the ball, never looked what anyone else was doing and got caught all out at sea.
Completely agree. I remember when Bullard came on as a sub at West Ham on his debut (Scott Parker crocked him 20 minutes later), Dean Marney seemed to grow 6" and was suddenly firing in screamers from 25 yards.
I watched shota’s post match and he thought tetteh had an error in the goal as well. Which is somewhat right gave them too much time in midfield and didnt presssure but usually allahyar should be the one marking the fullback coyle was man marking number 24 they almost played with two left wingers which caused us some trouble. Coyle kept having to remind allahyar to stay on maatson and he seemed to keep forgetting
Williams looks a bit lightweight to me and is definitely a winger, not wing-back. Let's see where the new signings take us but, for me, we look weak on the right.
