I can see that, but do you not think you leave a war torn country where you are being beaten and tortured ( allegedly)! You travel a couple of hundred miles and you are safe but you think, I just think I’ll travel a few thousand more miles to make sure I’m really safe, I’m sure my wife/ kids / family won’t mind if they have to stay there.
My opinion is probably very similar to yours Rooch, unfortunately our opinions have no bearing on the law. As the saying goes, "We are all entitled to our own opinions, but we are not entitled to our own facts"
Many of them choose the UK as their friends/family are already here. I suppose I'd do the same in that situation. That's the reason. It doesn't make it right and that shouldn't automatically fall on us as a county to accept them all. If they've passed through a safe country to get here, they've still got the right to apply for asylum here. We have the right not to hear that asylum claim. I've no idea what we would do at that point. If they've got no passports where do you send them? No other country would accept them.
Sorry for the cryptic reply, but surely when these 70% are paying the smuggling gangs money they are pooling with the rest
Unless we can prove they knew it was illegal to enter they aren’t breaking the law. People dodging tax and making us poor and organising exploitation are a bigger issue for society. There is a weird mindset in the uk that we are being invaded. Maybe it’s because we are an island. Maybe it’s because people have bought into the narrative created by Britain First, the national front, EDL, Nigel Farage etc
I don't have access to a small boat in Calais so I'm not sure how it works but I believe all of the passengers pay a couple of grand to the people smugglers.
Very harsh, but it’s a fact, brought on by successive governments not funding and ignoring our borders
And it's the people smugglers who need deterring as there is no law against travelling on these small boats. Happy to be corrected. Its like the illegal streaming of our matches, those that supply the feed can be charged whereas those that pay for the stream can not.
That's what political parties looking to gain support do. Focus on areas where people are fed up of the usual red or blue.
as i recall, 'ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of the law' for example a 30MPH sign is obstructed by trees and you get done for doing 35MPH you are meant to know the correct speed for that road, the fact that the sign is blocked is not an excuse. as to the last part and this is not to say that i agree or disagree...but maybe people are actually making their own minds up, right or wrong, than actually needing some 'extreme party' of people telling them what they need to think.
It doesn't work like that, it's a very grey area but it is not against the law for anyone to seek asylum in any country but at the moment to seek asylum in the UK a Refugee has to get here first, so by closing all of the legal routes of safe passage we are encouraging the use of illegal methods of entry.

Why We Need to Stop Saying ‘People of Color’ When We Mean ‘Black People’ It’s okay to call me Black. And if you feel it isn’t, I still insist that you do. https://level.medium.com/we-should-...-color-when-we-mean-black-people-29c2b18e6267
