Does anyone else think we're better off with Obertan on the wing? It might have been on this forum or Pardew that said it, but he keeps teams on the back foot, nobody wants to push up and let him run behind their defenders, I think he's got a lot to do with our defensive record this season.

Barton doesn't offer this, plus he hasn't been playing that well at QPR anyway tbh.

    Thoughts?

I chose Obertan for his pace, and he is younger and can only get better.

  4. If Ober could just be a bit more consistent with his deliveries, I'd pick him every day. He has incredible pace.

I'd say Barton but I'm willing to be patient with Obertan. Barton has done ok with QPR to be honest, as much as you can expect from a new signing. As well as they played against us QPR, it was probably due to adrenaline/euphoria after an exciting deadline day. Now reality has kicked in and they have found you have to somehow gel a team together. With Obertan I know and understand why so many of our fans have been frustrated. But he has never been an English style winger and is having to learn a slightly different role which involves defensive work. Some of his passing is worrying and he seems to lack a natural football brain. I just think he is a good option to have, particularly away from home in relieving pressure because of his pace. What's gone is gone, and there is really no way of judging whether we'd be better off with Barton or not. We're a different team now, but I'm sure he could have adapted. Very talented player. Obertan has some of the raw ingriedients to make it here, and he may improve again if we switch to 451 or 433.

Too early to call quality wise, but Barton on the wing made us so limited as a team, run down the left or cross deep from the right. Even with Obertan not at his best so far the team is playing vastly better all round.

At this moment it would still be Barton for me.

He's a much more accomplished all-round footballer - I realise Obertan has electric pace but it's still football and not athletics.

Obertan was very good in the 1st half yesterday but faded a lot as the second half progressed and was eased off the ball too easily. But he did his job, bombed down the wings and got an assist. The Stoke defenders had their hands full with his pace in the first half.

Tough to pick him or Barton as they're so different and offer different qualities and have different negatives.

This, he is so 1 footed it hurts, if he could adapt, he could be amazing. Until then I don't think he will be anything more than a fast runner!

Positively Ober...as a winger you need to be able to threaten fullbacks, unlike Barton.

Well Barton is a centre midfielder playing on the right, so has to be Obertan.

Could tell towards the end of last season that Barton should definetly be in the centre. Obertan's pace is a great outlet for us aswell

Obertan. He's going to need a lot more time than possibly he will get in order to prove himself, but his pace does it for me, plus it actually gives us the sort of right wing we never had with Barton.

Barton is a better player, Obertan is a better winger. Barton didnt offer us anything Cabaye couldnt anyway.

Very early to call, but I still think Barton at the moment. Better crosses, tackling back and doesn't mind a bit of the "dirty work".

Obertan did brilliant the first half last night, more of that and I will change my mind. But if he keeps throwing up what he did in the 2nd half, drop him.

Yep, just hoping Obertans confidence got a boost with that assist of his, I'm sure all he lacks is confidence - he seems to have ability but is terrified of trying to show it. I wish he would score, it could really help him out.
