Under 23's beat Coventry 2-1 at their place this afternoon.

A Coventry own goal and a goal from Isaac Jeffries gave City the win.

Funny thing was I never had Darren down as a "thinking" man during his playing time with us - always seemed to be "in with both feet" and think later.<laugh>

Good for him - and hopefully the club. <ok>

Another pre-season win for the 23s.
    2-0 against Pontypridd.
    Another trialist playing.
Purse said they've been varying the opposition with a mixture of 23s and senior teams, the latter to help them learn to deal with the physical side of the game.

Just seen the brief highlights of the 21’s win at Stoke. Can’t recall seeing the ball in the air - all along the deck with our winner starting with a throw out to a defender. Refreshing:emoticon-0148-yes:

Just watched a bit of this game. Great to see the U21s playing the ball about and winning it back as soon as they lost it. Just like the first team. 2-1 final score.

Thanks Irish. Came out to do my chores so lost track of the score.
    Was just about to check.
Colwill the younger got the opener.

Have we got a 23s side this year or just 21s?
    Everything I see is 21s.

    Interesting interview with Purse.
Honest assessment which seems a standard across the board these days.
Didn't recognise Purse, nor in earlier photos I've seen.
    He seems 'softer'.
Might be the fact he's grown hair, not the skin head he had when playing.

I think the Professional Development League has been switched this season from an under 23 to an under 21 competition.

    Thanks.
I think thats better to be fair. If a player isnt pushing for the 1st team by 21, will they?
I can see how upper premier league teams can carry a full team of 23s, but dont see that its financially viable for teams like us.
I suppose its why last year we had a very young 23s team.
I assume there's the usual ability to play the odd overage player.

Remote - regarding being able to play "over age" players, clubs are only allowed to field three outfield players over the age of 23, or born after 1 January 1998, plus the goalkeeper is also permitted to be over the age limit.

Under 21's playing lunchtime today up in Sheffield.

With no midweek game for us this week being out of the Carabao Cup, it's a good chance to try out some first team squad members for 45 minutes or so.

A few 1st team squad members are indeed getting a run out.
And a trialist on the bench.

Sang King Colwill & Whyte would have done a better job at Bristol than those selected ahead of them.
