Very much so. Suede have 2 nights there in October and Dead Kennedys (minus Biafra) are there next May...as I will be.

 

I used to go regularly on as Saturday night around 1983/84 I think. DJ was a bloke called Jay Strongman, played a pretty eclectic mix of music iirc. Dancefloor was heaving, and all the rockabillies hung out upstairs. Happy days. Mind you, I was verrrr, verrr drunk at the time.

 

Was in full Psychobilly/Punkabilly mode myself at that time...and still am, truth to tell.

I used to love that place, and along with The Town and Country Club, now The Forum again, was probably my favourite live venue. Saw loads of great bands there, in fact my first Smiths gig was there way back in December '83! Funnily enough I was back there last September for the Magic Numbers and felt like I'd never been away but I realised that prior to that night the last time I had been there for a gig was The Woodentops and the Mighty Lemondrops back in May '86! So where did the last 35 years go? That's what I want to know!

Last time I was at The Town and Country/Forum was for The Specials, 2019 I think. Haven't been to the Electric Ballroom for decades, nor Dingwalls. Saw The Psychedelic Furs at The Roundhouse not so long ago.

The Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park is now a church, for those who didn't know. And The George Robey is a now a Travelodge.

 

I was at that Furs gig....and at RAH earlier this year. Roundhouse was better...but both very good.

I do sometimes miss the days of the classic 45, this one came out on this day in 1979, I used to love going to the record shop to look through the new releases and taking something like this home and playing it to death.

My niece has paid a visit and actually returned the CDs from the last raid she made on my collection, this time she left with an armful of The Cure, I must be doing something right

 

Possibly my favourite Jam 45 as not only was the A side an absolute stomper but personally I always felt Smithers-Jones was Foxton's finest hour especially the single version. Anyway pleased to say I've still got my copy bought 43 years ago this week and still in remarkably fine condition considering just how many times it's been played through the years! Also got the Japanese version although that was bought secondhand a few years later in the early '80's.

 

Whilst I've always been partial to a drop of The Cure, especially the early years, I have to admit I actually prefer Dinosaur Jr's version although that probably has a lot to do with the fact that it was the first version I heard having bought the Blast First single back in '89. Still love The Cure's version but Lou's roars trump Robert's crooning for me at least!

 

My favourite Cure song is this one, I bought the 12" single when it was released and particularly like the extended version.
