Yesterday there was a woman on the football round up and underneath it read “Record number of England caps”. I shouted through to the wife “Who has the most caps for England?” She is a football fan and shouted back “Peter Shilton” in a tone of voice which suggested she was wondering why I was asking such easy questions.
They should throw her a curved ball question and ask her if she's ever been whacked in the nuts by a freezing cold mitre ?? That's a man's game...OUCH!!
Or ask her what she shouts to warn a team mate that an opposition player is coming up fast on them. I'd bet good money it's 'man on'.
Remember the slating John McEnroe got for suggesting the Williams sisters would be nowhere in the men’s rankings and wouldn’t make the top 500?? Then - “At the height of the Williams boom in 1998, an unofficial game took place in Australia after Serena and Venus claimed that no male player outside the top 200 could beat them. Up stepped a German known as Karsten Braasch who was ranked 203rd in the world and after first beating Serena 6-1, he then disposed of Venus 6-2. "I didn't know it would be that difficult. I played shots that would have been winners on the women's circuit and he got to them very easily," said Serena. "They wouldn't have had a chance against anyone inside the top 500 because today I played like someone ranked 600th to keep it fun," was Braasch's assessment.” Legend has it he rolled up smoking a cigarette and carrying a six pack of beer.
Apparently he said he'd have to play them in the afternoon, as he had a round of golf booked for the morning.
What annoys me here is that Souness,s achievements are been tarnished from the highly offended new versions of the Gestapo/Stasi. Totally overlooking the ground breaking decision to sign Rangers first Catholic player despite the abuse that came with it. This Woke brigade can F@@k right off.
Good post. Bit of a myth regarding first catholic player(there were several previously) but certainly the first 'high profile' Catholic player. Souness was a tough tackling,no nonsense footballer.Dished it out and took it back and when he alludes to a 'man's game's he's played in enough to be talking about it.
Here's the thing then, the reason I thought the comment 'it was a man's game' was off is because its lazy. This video makes complete sense, so why didn't he say that? Its nothing to do with it being a 'men's game' and more to do with the style of football he enjoys watching, which is absolutely valid and I completely agree with him. Men come in various competitive traits, to just jump on 'man's game' being the most physical football possible is a pointless sentence. It doesn't mean anything and it shows narrow mindedness.
Yeah I get this too, just not enough time to explain it in this depth I guess so he effectively dropped a grenade and ran
So, when the eggchasers refer to football as wendyball and say rugby is a man’s game it is lazy and narrow mindedness?
Its good that he's clarified. I think its right that some of the women players have pointed out to him what it implies, the outrage on both the 'its disgusting' and the 'you can't say anything these days' is as ever over the top.
Glum faces in the pubs in Hull as Liverpool have 75% possession and 17 shots to 4 but find themselves a goal down at half time. Smile on the face of our owner though as Fenerbahce are 3-0 up away from home at half time.
