Apparently Graham Souness said it was a proper man’s game, it seems Twitter is highly offended by it. Whether he said it because it was hard tackling & not much going down like they’ve been shot, I didn’t see the game, or whether he said it because he was sitting next to a woman footballer, only he will know. Either way, it’s a FFS moment for me! Next you won’t be able to take the piss out of anyone without someone being offended.
There was a female ex footballer sat next to him. He was alluding to the fact that the referee wasn’t constantly stopping play and allowing some crunching tackling. That is why he said that today we have a man’s game. Cue outrage with him being asked how can you call football a man’s game after what has just happened in the Euros? I guess some people don’t get context. Wonder if there will be outage at eggchasers constantly saying rugby is a man’s game?
This is how I interpreted it when he said it. Some just jump based on how it could sound and instead of asking what he means they just go OTT
I think some women partake(egg-chasing that is) but they look a bit manly to be fair...Nothing to see here, move on.
A rugby union player had to apologise not along ago for saying he was proud of his record number of caps. Turns out a woman had more playing for the women’s team. The fact she had got 6 Grand Slams shows the standard of the opposition there.
It wasn't so much the fact that he omitted to say 'Men's most capped', that wasn't such a big deal, the reason it went viral was because when it was pointed out to him that he should have said that, he said 'have a day off', which didn't go down well in some quarters.
The fact a woman had more caps is an irrelevance really. If England’s most capped player, goal scorer or try scorer was mentioned 99% of people would think of the men’s teams. Yet they won’t want just the record times for running, jumping, swimming etc printed they will still insist on women’s and mens records.
They'd have to include people that have won caps for other sports too, if they really want to be inclusive.
They interviewed one of the England women’s team, I think it was after the 8-0, asked her if she thought she’d be able to break the England scoring record, currently held by Wayne Rooney. The media people are trained really well to ask those questions, they can be just so, ****ing, annoying.
