Personally the jury is still out on this one for me, however, it should be said that twice this season he has scored vital goals, those being in our respective 1-0 wins more recently over Oxford United and at the beginning of the season against Cheltenham. So he has literally won us two games.

On the down side he picked up a red card also against Oxford, that has seen him suspended for three games, this Saturday I think being the last of that three match ban. I hasten to add that the red card was picked up for a tackle on Asa Hall who just in my opinion would have made a good candidate for much of the match as a pin in a ten pin bowling game!

Must admit though there is no messing with Montrose and I do like that in a player at League Two level.

As for any other attributes I will leave that to the tacticians out there but for what I have seen, he scores match winning goals, he is a no nonsense guy, which fits in with Lawrence and Framps but...not quite sure, so as I say the jury is still out for me.

Every time I see Montrose I feel he's a cross between Curtis Weston and Junior Lewis. I think he's a good addition to the team.

hes still very young and looked very good preseason and start of the season, has a bullet of a shot but is still adapting to his new more forward thinking role and i believe he was a holding midfielder for you guys. to an extent he reminds me of hess a bit in that he won't shy away from a tackle and was lucky not to get sent off before he did in the oxford game for a 2 footed lunge.

still young still learning but if he gets back to his preseason/ early season form then he is a valuable player to have in the squad certainly, however if lee, weston and payne etc are firing on all cylinders he wouldn't get a start imo

Gemini please tell me you didn't rate Junior Lewis, the only reason that bloke had a career is because he must have caught Peter Taylor doing something!

He's one of those players, in the Oxford game he scored a cracking goal and got sent off, can't remember him doing a lot else.

I have to say I think he is a great player who has the area to improve, Much like Rooney has this season which has made him a great player, But back to the subject of Montrose, he is a great holding player, with a good ability to score, he is good on the ball, But has some learning but overall good for our team.

Thank god for that Gemini!! Your right though he does look a bit like him. For the record i rate Montrose, think he is strong and a calming influence, seems to glide around the pitch and settles on the ball well. Natural player if you have these abilities, nothing looks forced.

Have to say I'm surprised by this. I've only seen him a couple of times this season, but what I've seen hasn't been great. Obviously he's scored a couple of vital goals, but i feel that i'd much rather have any one of our other central midfielders in the team than him (with the exception of Curtis, who has begun the season like an absolute donkey imo)

Like everyone Montrose has strengths and weaknesses. He has an amazing ability to cover ground quickly and is the only Gills player who can support the attack and defence continuously. His powerful tackling can be awesome but he gets far too many yellow (or red ) cards. His weakness is his first touch which could of course improve with coaching. He is young enough to come good and has a chance of emulating the two other ex Gills greats who were ungainly, lacked skill but had the athleticism and running power to play over 100 games at tiers 1 and 2. Who are these pair? Nosworthy and Lewis of course.

I think Lewis will improve, I must say at this moment in time, I'm not awfully impressed by him, but I'm sure he has the capacity to get better.

I feel that for a holding midfield player, which he seems to have mostly been employed as, he lacks a bit of presence, goes missing too often in games, and tries too many flicks or loose balls. The return of a fully fit Jack Payne could see Lewis' starting place a little under threat, so in my opinion he needs to up his game as I don't think he is a nailed-on starter.

I like what I have seen of Montrose so far, I agree that his 1st touch will need to improve if he is going to move up the ladder,(possibly a reason that Wycombe let him go?). And he does remind me of Junior Lewis too, and lets not forget that he was a player who made the most of his limited ability and Gills fans should never forget his performance at Wembley where he was probably man of the match and without his running in extra time and the ground he covered we may not have beaten Wigan and may never played championship football!
