So we are still hoping/expecting 4 signings then? Striker, full back, centre back and attacking mid Have seen centre mid talked about as well but wouldn’t have that close to as important as the other 4, unless one of the 4 we currently have leave
I have read that we have a interest in James Garner, I imagine we would need to move on Diallo for this to happen first though.
We would definitely need to move Diallo on for that to happen. And on paper that squad swap looks promising as he appears more suited to how we use our CMs. Diallo would work in a three with more support but it seems like that will either not be being used or if it is he will still be behind Aribo and the expected three central midfielders But the Garner link has us, Leeds and Everton. All three have signed central midfielders in the summer. Leeds have signed three. So could be a rehash of old links from before those signings were made. edit: Nottingham forest are apparently linked as well because they want to sign 6 central midfielders this summer and seem to have some kind of Jedi mind trick on players making them forget / not realise that the club have already signed loads of new players in their position
If we ended up with Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Garner and Romeu then that would represent a sizeable improvement in the CM department.
Absolutely. As long as it isn’t at the expense of every other department. All of which are probably weaker than CM is right now even before another signing. I was going to list them but it really is all of them
Well I would imagine we could re-coup 8/10Million for Diallo and then use that plus add ons for Garner. But I agree, JWP, Romeu, Lavia and Garner would be really good options in the middle of the park.
Looks like there is a lot of interest in Garner. Us, Leeds, Everton, Spurs and Forest allegedly all interested. All the others have signed at least one cm though so maybe just throwing some names about in the media As others have said we will have to be shifting one of the CMs to make room for him. I’d say Romeu is probably most likely but I’m sure most would want it to be Diallo
Forest have already made a few reinforcements in midfield, so I don't see that one. Likewise, I don't think you leave United because you're frustrated at your playing time and then go and sit on the bench at Spurs. So that leaves us, Leeds and Everton. After spending £30m+ on Onana, I would assume that spending money on further signings requires them to sell someone (Anthony Gordon?). So perhaps ourselves and Leeds, if we can get a player or two out the door. We should get a good run at this one, with any luck.
Aren’t forest on course to have signed 5 CMs in one window if Aouar goes through? Before Garner. And Leeds have bought in three. I’m not sure why a player who already doesn’t get games would go to forest. Has an equal chance of breaking through at us or Leeds. I think Everton have just got a cm injury but I’m not sure how serious it is. So it sounds a lot like listing out names of clubs who have been in the market for CMs this summer - whether they still are or not
Leeds have signed 2 midfielders who play that role (as little as I know about Garner) in Roca and Adams so good chance they aren’t interested. Wouldn’t say no to him but if it’s at the expense of a player in the 4 positions more crucially needed I’d pass and focus on those areas
I am quite confident we get three more players in, with room for a fourth (the CM, I believe) if we can ship a couple. I also think there's a chance we get a striker in on loan late in the window as well, on top of that.
The Gordon to Chelsea for 40m seems bizarre. Their new owner doesn’t seem to understand player values. Or realise they don’t play with wingers. Or realise they need an actual striker. Or realise Gordon isn’t a significant upgrade on Ziyech, Pulisic and CHO That said he is the most outrageous cheat in the division and maybe the theory his dives might get more reward at a “big club”
So the three would be full back, centre back and attacking mid? CM the 4th and a striker on loan That would address all areas we need, just hope the players are more Livramento than Small
Isn’t Gakpo from Man City also in that position? I agree on not prioritising it over the other positions. Although you have to wonder whether this is an “opportunity knocks” situation - he isn’t super high on the list now but is high on our list in general and if sold elsewhere then we lose the chance ? Who knows really
Gyarbi is I think, but don’t think he’s been bought to play in their first team this year. Might be wrong of course, not sure if he has been included on their bench for either of the games so far
From what I have heard, I think we will definitely sign: ST (permanent), FB (loan, more likely) and a 10 (loan or permanent). I think we'd also like to add another striker on loan, if we can. Interestingly, there's a lot of talk about the club going after an experienced CB now. I have to admit that I hadn't heard that one myself, but it certainly makes sense. I'd imagine CM - James Garner seemingly - only really comes into play if we have the resources and get someone(or a couple) out of the door.
Interesting you haven't mentioned a CB either, I think Jacob tanswell spoke about a experienced one coming in on TSP!
Good to hear, we can only loan 2 players total so need to factor that in with the full back, attacking mid and striker options as well
