It's funny but whilst I was a massive fan of The Jam I can't in all honesty say the same for Bowie. Loved the Ziggy Stardust LP in it's entirety and a number of his 70's singles but I've always associated Ashes to Ashes with this track. I can remember buying this the week it was released although I paid for it with my paper round money rather than a proper job as I didn't leave school until the following Summer but having just done a bit of digging I now realise why I've always linked these two songs as it was Start that knocked Bowie off the number one spot! Looking back not only was it Bowie's last great single I feel it was probably The Jam's too. Don't get me wrong I loved Funeral Pyre, Absolute Beginners and Town Called Malice but Start was something else altogether!
There was you buying this single with your 1st wage packet and I was working like a mad thing to pay my mortgage on our 1st property , a 1bed flat with the only heating was a 2 bar electric fire in the living room but somehow managed to see the jam that year at the Friars Aylesbury on a very hot summers night
Not sure about this band but last time I was in New York, Nov 2018 I remember seeing the sax player with a band in Union Square as I remember thinking he will knacker his ankles if he keeps this up
Great biopic on Gary Numan on Sky Arts tonight -: Resurrection. Hadn't tracked him for last 30 years, but great to see him back on top of life. Very influential artist and comes across as a decent bloke
I watched the film on BBC when Marley came to Britain, Q: who was the white guy wearing the blue shirt and denim jacket doing part of the talking ? I recognise the voice but can't place him Following that prog was Reggae at the BBC , Sugar Minot and his band looked like the had done a drive through in a Sue Ryder shop before going on stage Burning Spear were superb, Winstone Rodney's voice backed by a great band
So, pretty damn sharp then? I know rock journo Chris Salewicz is in that Marley documentary. He's usually at any Joe Strummer memorials and talks about Marley as well as his time spent with The Clash. Could it have been him?
Electronic musics' Elvis, pure ans simple. Replicas is one of the greatest electronic music LPs ever made. "Very influential artist" He was beloved by the Electro + Hip Hop communities in the 80s, but it was years after the fact that he ever knew the reverence he was held in. And of course his music is forever enshrined in the remix community as one of the definition works of "mash-up" culture (the Richard X "Girls on top" series) .
Cheers...I wish... So far, not too bad. I've had proper flu about 3 or 4 times in my life. They were all worse than this. It's more like a heavy cold at the moment, with headaches and a feeling of tiredness, but I'm taking no chances, as i really don't fancy the idea of long Covid ****ing my life up. So, I'm being sensible and will take my time to get over it. Getting older means looking after myself that little it better from now on.
He did a short set of his latest album on an OGWT anniversary show last year , he had his daughter on stage with him, he is not usually my taste but I really enjoyed it
I found plenty of fluids and paracetamol worked for me, it was 10 days after testing clear before I felt ok but even then found a gym session was harder
Fri 20 January 2023 @ Electric Ballroom... Half Man Half Biscuit At £25 a ticket, I think that's a 'Yes'. Any other takers?
