We are still a little naïve when it comes to the dark arts , the player should have been brought to ground four or five yards further from our goal which would have made it a lot harder to score the resulting free kick and we were well and truly punished for our naivety . Most important thing is we learn from it , same as substituting tired players earlier as mentioned on earlier in the thread , AN has been brilliant since his arrival and is bound to make errors of judgement we owe him a degree of latitude he has plenty of credit in the bank .
So disappointed not to have won, we really deserved it we'd played so well. A very good freekick and then their keeper has the 90 secs of his career, popping up with the header then that double save, how the feck didn't that second one go in off the bar!? Attacking wise we'll cause teams loads of bother, Stewart and Simms are class. It needs tightening up at the back though. Hope Dan Ballard is alright, astounding the ref deemed it not worthy of any punishment - such a late tackle!
Never said they shouldn’t celebrate. But this was a draw with a newly promoted side. Not a win against a top side. They’re aiming for play offs. I’ll be happy to stay up. I would be embarrassed to celebrate that vociferously after drawing a game at someone who are bookies favourites for relegation
Yep. But not for 10 minutes after the final whistle! And I won’t expect the players to do a lap of honour either. I’d be embarrassed mate with the team.
Each to their own. But I just can’t see any Safc team celebrating a 2-2 draw like that. I’ve seen SAFC do that. I remember is winning a game with the last kick against Charlton a few years ago. We didn’t celebrate like that. Neither the fans nor the players.
Screaming out for a change well before the 1st goal, embleton fannying on with it in their half before they countered and won the corner that lead to their 2nd. Very frustrating, especially how close we came to winning it both before the 2 goals and after.
You seriously need to take a good look at the budgets of all the teams in the Championship this season. SAFC would be top ten and QPR would be bottom five. Enough of the play-off nonsense, we would take mid table now. When you get a point like that today of course you are going to celebrate. We had five starters that shouldn’t even be getting a game such is our injury list. If you can’t close out a game from two up....tough luck.
Just looked at the league table and still thought in my head we had 7 points not 5. Still can't believe we didn't win that and I'm still fuming about it. Looking back although the last 5/10 mins of that game should have been managed better both by the players and the manager we were still stupidly unlucky. A 25 yard free kick and a goalkeeper scoring a header from a second phase corner ain't 2 things that happen more than once a decade from minute 88 onwards. It's probably been half a lifetime since I've still been fuming about our game this long afterwards I normally take these things with a lot more humour and dignity but something about today is still sticking in my throat.
I think it was maybe the manner of it tho they knew they'd got out of jail and how often do you play in a game when your keeper scores an injury time equaliser. In the long run a point to them today means **** all but I get the jubilation of moments like today must have been to them. I remember how buzzing I was when Mart Poom headed an injury time equaliser at Derby when in any other circumstance a point at Derby would have been met with a basic meh.
Just read Alex Neil's post match comments and he's totally missed the point really. I agree with him that the 2 goals in the manner they happened were as close to unavoidable as you get but it's the process that led to them that is avoidable. He says himself Tyler Roberts was allowed to run 50 yards before being brought down on the edge of the box why the **** was he not brought down on the half way line? The second yes their keeper is 6 inches taller then anyone in the box and he's flicked an unstoppable header into the top corner. Not much you can do about it but my question is why was Danny Baath left 1 v 1 against there winger when he was outpaced and their lad got the shot away which led to the corner. We had zero street smarts in the closing stages of that game and for that Neil and the players must take responsibility. 2 points completely flushed down the drain
Gutted. But hindsight is easy and although with hindsight we are always right I think he gets more decisions right than wrong. Other than the Carabao cup we are still unbeaten for yonks. we have made a decent start to the campaign. We are playing well. We are scoring goals. We are also learning as a team. It shows how far we have come that we are gutted that we are sixth in the league. Imagine being a Norwich or Boro fan at the mo. Id rather be a Sunderland fan
Perhaps it was so late that was how the referee missed it but where were his fellow assistants who would have had a perfect view , surely they would have seen it as most of the SOL saw it - if seen it would and should have warranted a red card , it was intended .
Imho, the keeper could not have done much for the free kick, (Gooch not given the free kick in dangerous place?) Either the wall should have more and taller bodies in it, or we should have had a man on the post. 2nd goal a scramble, could Patterson have stayed on his line? With the SAS plus Clarke and Pritchard, we have a potent strike force (pray nobody gets injured). The defence is not as good but were undone today by a great shot and the opposition goalie. Roll on the new signings soon please
I said before he took the free kick to my mate "I've got a bad feeling here", not because of our wall or that cheb that scored it standing over the ball, but because there was no one on any post, I find it very odd that something so old school is fading out.
Disappointing given the start, but we're learning lessons while gaining points. It's when we're getting nothing I'll worry.
Stewart was class today. Didn't put a foot wrong and used the ball superbly. Closed everything down. Evans was similarly excellent. It's a shame we didn't get the win we should have but it's increasingly looking like we've got a squad of championship quality players, which is a bit of a relief.
