To put last nights win into perspective

Up until last night Stoke had only let in 1 goal at home all season and that was against Manure who they drew with.
They've also played Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs at home so far drawing 2 and winning 1 of those games.

We havn't won there in the league since 1985.

This is a huge result for us IMO when you read those kind of stats.

Agree entirely. Massive result but we need to make sure we beat Everton on Saturday as we could well lose the 3 games after that. Exciting times!

I think we can get something from Everton, expecting nothing from the Manchester clubs but then think we can get something out of Chelsea probably a draw. Chelsea seem a bit of the pace to me, not playing well at all and even when they are we usually manage a daw at the least.

I think you need to consider that they lost two defenders to what seemed to be injuries last night. Stoke usually defend a bit better than that but I'm not taking anything away from your performance, if Ba's touch hadn't been so heavy when Shawcross slipped, that would have been another goal. Their keeper Begovic? played very well considering he shipped 3.

Great improvement from last season too. Definitely have the defence to thank for that

believe me when i say i think the majority of Toon fans are amazed by the start and the way we are playing as much as anyone else and not one of us is getting ahead of ourselves.
I'll guarantee when we lose/hit a bad patch (like most teams do) we'll be called deluded by the media and pundits alike for enjoying this start, when in reality we'll be over the moon with a top ten finish.

It was a great result, an excellent performance and only the referee tried to spoil it with his 'soft' penalty decisions.

We need more quality players in January though - with Ba & Tiote away we will struggle unless Pardew can get hold of some of that money.

I've no doubt about that Secret Ingrediant, see where we are once we get past christmas. But we are getting some fantastic result and just loving the ride so far.

As for the Manure supporters comment, he's spot on.

The thread about Journos changing there tune with a link to an article in the Telegraphy, one of the comments on that article is from a Man Citeh supporter who basically says he sees us as there toughest test this season.

Great compliment and nice to think other supporters are starting to think that of us. But can't let it go to our heads, don't want to regain the deluded tag again

At least the ref was consistant with the pens, both were very soft and shouldn't have been given really.

Yes he was, the trouble being that no other ref is going to give pens for challenges like that.

If they do we're going to have 20 pens each game! <yikes>...

True but it didn't cost us points unlike some of the decisions in the Blackburn CC game

Am I the only one who thought they were both clear penalties?

No points just a chance of a good cup run which IMO the chicken chokers didn't deserve to go through.
But I can live without it for another season.

Im taking the Blackburn reffing deicions as payback for the decisions that went in our favour at Wolves, when we didnt deserve the win. They all even out.

Fair comment, a draw would have been a fair result in that game but I saw it as justice for the kicking we took down there the season before. Bit like last night with Stoke :D

No, I thought they were as well.

Crouch positioned himself early and Ba barged into him from behind. Crouch went down a bit easy but it was still a push from behind.

Huth's was even more obvious. Quite clearly pushed with both hands on Bestie's back.

Ridiculous defending. But I do agree with some of the other posters, decisions like these could be given several times in most games but rarely are.
