Not totally convinced, after all these years, we should have signed him the first time. £4.3M..? Where did that evaluation come from, for one brilliant overhead kick and a long throw..?
Indeed. I'd leave it until the summer. We're not exactly light on people who can put the ball in the net.
Rodriguez, Maynard, Sharp. It's as simple as that. And you don't have to be proven in the Prem to be Prem class - is Messi Prem class, do you think?
Don't think we should get maynard or sharp both I see as just ok strikers. What happened to the quotes in the paper, that had sharp saying he rejected us because he wanted more money?. Wouldn't have Emnes to far to light weight, yeah he has skill but put soon as our defenced hassled him he lost the ball easely. Think we should use some of our great scouting network and get a unknown foreign player. Would be much cheaper to tbh.
Maynard is definitely not "Just okay", he's a brilliant player. The issue I have with him is that I've heard less than flattering things about his off-field persona which can have a negative effect on his performances - oh and he's somewhat prone to injury. Never would I call him anything less than excellent at this level when he's on song, though.
Oh come on, Dan. There's a slight difference there, with Messi, who actually plays at a level which is arguably superior. The three you mention have become the usual suspects. However, none of them actually need to be signed in January.
It was just an example though. You can easily be good enough for the Prem without being proven there, didn't everyone think last season Lallana would have no problem adapting? I definitely think one of them needs to be signed - Connolly, as suspected, is showing signs of losing fitness, Barnard is just coming back from an injury, and Guly is probably better in midfield (certainly not an out and out striker anyway). I definitely think we need one - especially if *touch wood* dare I believe, we end up somehow getting promoted, this strike force is nowhere near Prem standard.
Each to their own, i have my opinion you have yours, i see maynard as a lazy player. That only plays well when the whole team do's. He has a 0.42 strike rate through his whole footy career, which granted is gd. But I just don't see him working as a team player so wouldn't work.
If Maynard only plays well if the whole team does, sign him now as he'll love it at Saints, though Nigel won't tolerate laziness.
Just because a player, plays well when his club do's dosn't meen he is a team player. It just meens he has more chance's.
Surely the same could be said for any striker? They thrive on chances, Lambert wouldn't score nearly as many without the class he has providing him.
Look at our strikers work rate, they don't just pitch in with goals. They support the other players, set players up etc. Maynard in my opinion do's not do this he is all about getting goals for himself. Id rather have a team playing as a team then one player playing in that team being a individual.
I'd love it to be! But at the end of the day Barnard hasn't even been tested in this league yet, Connolly's years are running out, Guly isn't typically a striker, though Lambert has been very good in this division so there's no reason why HE shouldn't be okay. I can't help but worry!
i dont really know how he is getting on tbh - judging by your reacton, not that good ! as said before, Simeon Jackson would be good, Jay Rod, Billy Sharp, Charlie Austin, Craig Mackail-Smith (altho unlikely), danny graham would be a good bet !
