I think Lazenby got a lot of crap because he wasn't Connery during a time that only Connery had been Bond before then. I actually think it was a pretty decent film.

Certainly not as bad as Moonraker or From Russia with Love.

Lol... I didn't like Timothy Dalton as Bond. He was my least favourite Bond. Roger Moore was cheesey as hell, but you kind of expect that with Roger Moore's bond and it wouldn't be his Bond without the cheese.

I thought he suited the actual supposed role which is spy and assassin. Dalton had a good script IMO though and that move was far better than what was, with respect to moore, a slapstick bond.

The final Connery bond movies and the moore were of their time and why myers took them off with austin powers... or indeed mr Bean's thing.

    theres 6 film actors.

Lazenby - one move, not terrible, bit cheesy TBh.
Moore - 100% cheese. also over the hill for most of them TBH. moon rake is an archetypical crap moore movie where he looks like a geriatric.
Brosnan - really he's moore but with a tiny bit less cheese.
goldeneye was a complete bond reboot and massive needed, the res tof them... not very good writing
Dalton - vastly under rated. only did 2 and the second was a bit weepy but the first was imo a proper spy movie.
Craig. now lets face it, he was decrepit at the end. same as all bond movies, the writing for some of his movies (SPECTRE) was near on disastrous) but he fitted then bond role well in casino royale in particular.
Connory. The original moveis. 2 or 3 max were what set up the entire franchise.

I'd pick out 4 or 5 movies and the rest are a mix of fine, par for course or absolute drivel.

from russia with love is definitive.
    The living daylights
    Live and let die
    Casino royale
    Goldeneye

one thing that sort of ties this togther for me is debut movies are the best movies even though i'm leaving out some really good ones.

    a) they are not wise arseing about bond being old.
    b) they are interested in telling the audience about bond in a story setting as casino royale does very well.
    c) they usually have better action.

Roger Moore first then Pierce Brosnan, didn't like the others.Daniel craig was ok but the later films lost all the gadgets that made the films stand out from just another action film.

Complete opposites there... I can't remember which one was Live and Let Die, but the others, with exception of Goldeneye, would be on my list of worst bond films... <laugh>

I wasn't a fan of Craig's first two Bond films, even if they were supposedly, more in spirit of the books.

After Quantum of Solace, I felt Craig's movies got better... Skyfall was peak Craig Bond. It felt more like the older movies. But you're right, they did lose a lot of the "Bond-feeling" without the gadgets.

I did like Pierce Brosnan a lot. He had the Moore charm without the over-the-top cheese. Brosnan was let down by a lot of really bad writing. Goldeneye was good but after that the writing was a bit subpart, but I liked Brosnan himself as Bond. Some of the gadgets themselves got a little silly during the Brosnan era, like the invisible cars.

Dr No because it's largely a traditional down to earth secret service film. And one of only 2 Bond films where he kills someone in cold blood.

It's far too Hollywood that Bond never does in the other films. The only other one is Casino Royale (where he gets his 00 status for the 2nd kill).

    Goldfinger.
    You Only Live Twice.
    From Russia with Love.
OHMSS is also very good Bond film.

Anyway this is pointless. A far better debate would be everyone's favourite Bond girl.

You'll get a better idea if you've watched BB first.

I think I watched the first season (or maybe first two seasons of BCS) before I watched BB.

I do think would have been better to watch BB first.

At this point you could watch BCS first but the other way around is better imo.

The worst part about watching BCS first was that my wife had already watched BB so every episode it was "oh that guy was in BB. So was that guy, or was he, I don't remember, he might have been in BB too".

I haven't seen the very last season yet, don't have cable, so I have to wait an extra year after you get it in UK.

The last season of BCS I just watched (penultimate one) it finally starts getting good. The first seasons were good just nowhere in the same league as BB... The one I just watched was almost as good as BB. The last few episodes of that season about as good as TV gets.

My one complaint about BCS (and it's actually more a complaint of the early seasons) is that it feels artificially stretched to make more episodes and as an excuse just to cameo people from BB.

There are more fluff-filler scenes. Presumably to build character, but I'm much more of a fan of character being established and built along with the plot.

Too much "oh I had a great random conversation with someone last night, I wonder if I can work it into the show" type scenes. Reminds me of Tarantino and his "let's stop the show to talk about rubbing women's feet for ten minutes" type stuff.

Enjoyed The Sandman, despite it being a bit disjointed at times. 8/10
