I disagree on that, Howden. If we sell to a Prem club now but get him back on loan this season, and if we happen to get promoted this season, we’d still be losing a key player and worse yet, abetting the development of another club’s player who will likely never play for us again. I think a new contract with a reasonable 8-figure release clause is best for City and Greaves. That way, if a Prem club wants him next year and he feels he’s ready, all they need to do is trigger the release clause.
Oh I agree, I don't want to lose him etc, I just ment if he was to go in this window then that would probably be best case scenario for us and give us a little more time to properly replace
What kudos is there in being VC? The captain doesn’t seem to do much other than have his picture taken with Roary every match! Seems daft to me having Cap and VC in a back4.More sense to give VC to a forward.
I know there’s still lots to look forward to but does anyone else get the feeling the mood has dampened around the club and the ‘new season’ optimism has tapered off a bit? It’s hard not to be a bit anxious with the ever-increasing injury list and Greaves situation, coupled with the question mark over Shota’s head. The results so far have been quite decent as well but the mood on here, Twitter, Facebook and people I speak to seems a bit nervous at the moment.
If the mood has dampened then it's due to people having unrealistic expectations and question marks over shotas head???? That shouldn't even be discussed until 8/10 games after the window closes. 4pts after 2 games if a solid start.
If he really wanted to stay he'd sign a new deal, he obviously doesn't, which is absolutely fine, it's his career. Hopefully we can get as much as possible for him and replace him with a similar player. Left footed, young British centre back.
Not me, personally. I think he deserves a solid run. I mean the people I’ve seen on here and other places online and in person questioning whether he’s the right man for the job. I still don’t know if he is, but he deserves our support for now imo.
We don't know what he's being offered but he will be seeing lots of new players coming in on top whack and it doesn't look like he's being offered the same. We'll have to wait and see what happens but to lose Greaves & KLP in your first window, regardless of incomings, is a horrible look for Acun I hope there's some serious conversations going on about meeting his demands. We cannot be losing him this year
Am I right in thinking, based on Shota’s recent interview, that the club won’t make another contract offer to Greaves until after the window’s closed? I actually think that’s smart, as it allows the club and player to iron out any creases without the distraction of another club trying to sign him here and now.
Yes but it's the Greaves situation and the injuries that are dampening things for me more than anything else
Do we ever really learn anything from Shota's interviews? He just speaks in circles about any subject he doesn't want to answer a question on
Just to take something away from this, we won’t be promoted this season, so we don’t have to worry about getting a PL ready CB in too quickly.
Greaves has seen his mate go onto serious money with one move. It’s only natural that he would like a serious wage too. Personally I think he would be better having another year with us which is the right level for his development. It’s easy to make a wrong move at this stage of his career. I can’t honestly see him being a regular starter in a premiership team at present. In two years time I can.
I agree it's not a good look loosing both KLP and Greaves in the same window. On the other hand, I'm sure we've offered him a fair deal, it might not be as much as say Seri or Tufan, but why should it be? They're both experienced senior internationals that have played at the top level for years. I'm sure he believes he should be on a similar wage but I personally don't.
