We may well have to do the same this season if we don't get any offers. There is no point having more than 4/5 attacking mids and we currently have 7 with Aribo, Armstrong, Elyounoussi, Djenepo, Redmond, Walcott and Tella (potentially bringing in 1 more). It looks like Tella will be loaned to Burnley, but if we can't find a permanent move for at least 2 of Redmond/Walcott/Djenepo/Elyounoussi then it wouldn't surprise me to see them loaned so we can at least save on some of their wages.
Hope it’s because we were never interested in Lirola, rather than having spent all our transfer budget, as we are no where near strong enough this season and the squad overhaul which was desperately needed wouldn’t be achieved? As at the moment we have out of the 5, 2 starters, 1 on bench and 2 not in squad.
Or, more likely, Elche could guarantee him first team football and is just up the coast from where he grew up. We don't half over analyse things sometimes.
This makes the most sense Also the notion that we were only trying to loan him because we couldn’t afford to buy came from one tweet when the link was first mentioned. And typically loads of people seized on it immediately as the truth when it can’t possibly be since we are openly talking about attacking reinforcements. And a loan in this poison has been the expectation the whole time as we have two players on the books for this one - neither of whom we would choose to move on if we had the choice
I do agree with whoever said that it would seem to make more sense to bring in a LB to compete with Perraud rather than a RB to back up KWP if we are to only bring in one fullback. We currently only have KWP RB and Perraud LB, but Tino will be back eventually on the right, whereas we have nobody else on the left. Ideal world we bring in a LB on a perm and loan in a RB so we at least have back up on both sides but with all the other business we still need to do that seems unlikely so I’d take a LB that can play RB as the next best thing.
He obviously heard about my move to the area and decided to join me. If I get a chance to watch them, I will feed back how he gets on.
I’d say we will struggle to make a permanent signing as a second choice left back and we won’t be looking to push Perraud back to second/third choice likely due to the investment in him Bringing in a left back would still leave us with no right back if KWP was injured. Bringing in a right back means if Perraud is injured KWP plays there (and likely will anyway) and if KWP is injured the new player plays at RB
Weren't The Athletic a reasonable source previously? Might be me, but seems like they've got a few things way off with us recently.
What things have they got way off? Might be down to change in the journalist representing saints ? But from the one you quoted - that is just a report from the forum where the categorically said the rumour of an Everton loan was not true
I have to say that the thought of new signings does not really fill me with much excitement. Whoever comes in as a central defender will surely end up being coached in to the same thought processes which have led to the continued failures under Ralph in these positions. It is like some kind of malady. It would have been better to replace the manger and see what someone else could do in his stead. We should have let a new manager come in and rebuild. I like Ralph yet I am far from convinced he has anything left to offer. Not sure I would be tempted to join Saints under Ralph unless I was at the beginning of my career and knew I could get first team experience. No one of any quality will have any belief in him and I just remain unconvinced the new signings would be any better that Adama Armstrong, Djenepo, Diallo or Lycano.
