As a player I think it's vital to have one or you get taken advantage of by the club you're at. There's a lot players wouldn't understand about the intricacies of the contracts they're signing, and having a club telling them to sign a deal and going along with it can lead to the player getting paid significantly less than they should. Agents do add a lot of value to players, but as supporters of CLUBS we're diametrically opposed to that side of the game and would rather everyone be running around playing for City on 10 quid a week if we could.
Without being pernickety young Greaves gave away a few penalties last season and has always got his arms around an opposition player giving away needless free kicks , however he is a talented up and coming player who I would like to keep, so this is the downside of forums misleading information that sheep like lol, maybe you missed a few of his games but to say he hardly put a foot wrong is a little misleading sorry about pulling you on this but I was a little cheesed off with our woeful tactics and performance the other night, I still don't think Shota is the man but fingers crossed he proves me wrong.
I'm not siding with anyone ffs, you need to stop adding 2+2 to get 5 with my posts or I'll just stop responding to you altogether. It leads to these back and forth discussions that no one enjoys reading and I don't enjoy copping from you. "Do you have his tattoo" I mean seriously wtf are you on about?
You seem to be justifying an emotionally predicated conclusion in many of your posts, and disregarding the rational and realistic. Not a criticism, just an observation. ... And who you respond to is up to you. Always has been.
I've seen it mentioned a few times now that he's got another year after this one, plus his option year. Is that right? I've had him down as being up next summer, but with an option year.
Whilst I feel current board could do more. Unfortunately we are still suffering from the previous regime in the sense that these assets should’ve already been tied down longer than they currently are on much better salaries too. We may feel the rise in average wage has been sudden but that’s the average for the league. And standout players at this level are going to be demanding £20k minimum and players like Greaves will get it because they’re investments on top of being capable players now. It’d be well worth giving him a deal like that as we’d likely make 8 figures on him in a year if we don’t go up regardless of the length of his deal
Yeah I was banging the drum year after year that their stubborness (I think I once saw it linked to the 5 year deal Bullard was given) not to give players 5+ year deals has really stunted us with our young talent. You're exactly right and I can't understand the narrative that he's not worth a high wage either because of his age or stage of development - if anything his development considering his age is evidence of why he's worth so much. He's played every minute of Championship football for us since promotion from League 1, for a CB to do that at his age is ridiculous. And it's not as if our defence has been bad in that time either.
Paying him a guarantee of £1m at £20k a week is well worth it to me as it stops us being forced to accept likely sub £10m next summer with only 1 year left on his deal as I can’t see us going up this season. Thinking about it, it’s incredibly hard to tie youngsters down after a breakout season at this level now. Brennan Johnson didn’t do it until promotion, plenty others are the same but the better run clubs identify these players early and reward them with 4 year + deals. Like we have with Cartwright. Hopefully we can get greaves tied down until 24 + an option but unfortunately the modern game entails that it’s unlikely he’ll do so. Will just be a real shame if we allow him to go to another championship club
June 23 with an option year, yes. We sold Jarrod for decent coin well into his option year. On Greaves, no rush for either party to sign now. He won't go for much more than 5 m this or next year... He's still all potential in marketable terms. .
If he goes to another Championship club, it doesn’t really show a desire for the game, just chasing the money, short term gain IMO.
Not necessarily unless we're saying Boro would be paying him substantially more than us. He'd be going to a manager notorious for developing CBs and will be pushing for the PL.
The fact these young players are coming out of contract? When Greaves re-signed in 2020 we should have been giving him a 5-6 year deal not a 3 year deal. It was also a more general comment and conversation than specifically Greaves.
OK. Maybe Ehab, Darno should have, But I bet you anything he and his agent would be pushing a hell of a lot more then would be, had he actually been held to a long-term Ehab contract.
Maybe. At that point we were halfway through a league one season where he'd just broken into the first team.
I’m on tour of Canada and can’t be arsed to scroll through all the thread so looked at page 1. Nothing to see here people move on
