We all have different views of history.

LJ/Ashton made a profit of Webster.
Bryan, Reid, Kelly etc etc were already here and early doors of LJ/Ashton results were good and we had the fantastic cup run.
As they were sold the vast majority was spent on 60plus wasters and decline was inevitable.
With the pathetic squad left when LJ was sacked meant whoever took charge had no chance.

SL's decision to employ LJ and Ashton, when we had resources, is the ONE reason we now find ourselves up sh*t creek without a paddle.

He wasn’t given a chance, in hindsight how much better, and cheaper, if we’d not bothered with Palmer and given Szmodics a fair go.

Another cock up by the previous regime we could go on and on and on with the cock ups.

Nige must think he has taken on the circus when he arrived.

Has he become the head clown?!!
Come on RR, even you must be thinking, "is he all that"?
I think there were managers out there that might/could/should have done a whole lot better with the players we have.....

That was made from selling out best players, disrupting the progress, which was a whole lot better than we have now.. bearing in mind the sh!t we were in when he took over from SC.. certain relegation

You have to remember most players greatest % is money right off's ... how the prem clubs can spend £100m on a player keep for 5 years and get nothing or little back [ add in wages as well ] is beyond comprehension... ..... the money gained was not all written off as we made a profit and accounts were balanced within FFP... WE JUST MANAGED TO GET TO THE HEIGHT of the past 14 years when LJ left .....
it is history now part of the past we were successful until LJ left .. even fairly successful when DH left .. Ashton was desperate to leave on a high but screwed it by bringing in NP ... IT HAS been a steeper decline than the Glouster cheese rolling hill .... trouble is no reward at the bottom for BCFC

So where did we get the money in the first place? , granted that’s how he was able to continue, but he also had money at the beginning that he didn’t generate.

I’m disappointed in the lack of progress under NP, but in fairness we’re now having to pick up the best league 2 & lower league 1 players, if a championship player is available we’ve not much chance realistically of bringing them in. That just wasn’t the scenario that LJ ever faced. It just wasn’t .

As somebody else said on another forum Nige shops in the corner shop now because the rest blew the funds on crazy signings in years gone by.

Not sure I agree totally with that..We sold our best players and was left with trying to assemble a team with what ever was out there at the right price and that wanted to come here...which wasn't great from what I remember...rushed usually leaving it to the last minute, picking the best from the dross that were left.. pretty much the same situation that we find ourselves now...with covid affecting all clubs..
    Its all poor excuses imo..

Again tbf the pandemic had a lot to do with it as well. Our business model relied on selling players at a large profit, and corporate income using Ashton Gate. Both these revenue streams dried up, the selling aspect has still not restarted, and is unlikely to in the foreseeable future.

Doesn't matter where he shops...fails to get the best from the players he has...poor management and coaching in my book.. Even you must see that..

If a player of Webster ilk was available now for instance, we wouldn’t be anywhere near in the running to sign him, likewise Kodja, even Kalas. That’s not NP’s fault. We are shopping in Poundland now, we used to shop in M&S, or possibly Waitrose.

The evidence seems to suggest you are right, but it doesn’t help that he has to coach players of a lower standard. Getting the best from poor players is a different skill set to working with higher quality ones. Maybe NP isn’t able to work his magic on lesser players?
