Of the 7 Championship matches over the weekend that were not draws in only 1 did the team with the most possession win the game. Possession-based football is clearly not a criterion for appointing managers.
Possession with purpose - an end product - is what is needed. Not possession for possession’s sake. We have a style of play with no pace and no width - teams, if they lose possession, know that they can easily get back to re-set and defend as we will still be passing the ball outside our own penalty area.
Here’s what I wrote on 13 March after the Blackpool defeat: “Over 400 passes in our own half - they were winning 1-0…. and were happy to let us keep the ball by our goals Possession with purpose is needed not possession for possession’s sake “
Like I said previously you have a manager making excuses for his lethargic pedestrian passing game with speaches on financial constraints, he needs to get the speed up to 5th gear, and sort out our **** defense, hopefully Joe Allen will inject some needed purpose into our midfield, and maybe he can be given the captaincy, but Allen is well passed his prime, we got him, because he was free, you know how Jinx loves the freebies.....
The Swansea Manager IS operating under " financial restraints ". That's not his fault, so he is not necessarily making excuses, just saying how it is. At the moment most UK households are operating under their own " financial restraints ". Are you condemning them, as well ? Everybody loves " freebies ". Why continue to attack " JInx " ? Only a fool pays for a product they can get for free.
So ? Nothing has seemingly changed since his interview. Why is he being blamed for something that is out of his hands ? Running a football Club is horrendously expensive. Were the owners to constantly splash out millions and millions of pounds on players, as most supporters seem to be exhorting, ( though not with THEIR money ),and the players don't perform, what then ? Splash out more millions on other players with the same result. Foolishness. The owners have a modus operandi, which is not to squander their money. Swansea City have squandered too much money in recent years, and where has it got them. They are also being pilloried for spending THEIR money on THEIR North American Club. Why shouldn't they, it's THEIR money, and THEIR Club. How many posters would be happy if strangers told them what to do with their money, and how to run their lives ? I won't be getting any likes for this post as I don't run with the herd.
Every club is under financial restraint - RM exacerbates the situation by sidelining players who he seemingly doesn’t like. Additionally, he seemingly doesn’t learn from experience. Just my opinion
Down the years The Swans have had some fantastic Managers, many of whom oversaw promotions, top half of Premier League, and even a major Cup success, and a good run in Europe. Many other Clubs would have loved such success. Swansea City were much envied. But it wasn't enough. The Swansea fans turned on them all, not to mention the owners who saved the Club from going out of the League. Speaks volumes for them. Now they turn on the new owners and the Manager. Clearly some things never change. Could it be that the fickle, ungrateful fans deserve what they get, viz, a team that dismays them week on week. Don't you just yearn for those heady days of Martinez, Rodgers, Laudrup, Monk, Potter, and Cooper.
Most, if not all, Managers sideline players they don't like, or who have fallen out of favour. It's how the system works. If your face doesn't fit, etc. Martin is no more guilty of that than any other. Your opinion matters, as does everyone else's.
Monk, highest Premier League position. Dismissed as useless. Cooper, two Championship playoffs. Dismissed as useless. Spot the pattern ? Shouldn't the fans' who didn't appreciate what they achieved, also be dismissed as useless ? The bottom line is, Swansea fans' are just too fickle, and unforgiving. Not to mention their unreasonable expectations.
It’s just not Swans fans that are fickle, I’ve been reading tonight on twitter Forest fans calling for his head and saying he’s not good enough.
