Dear Ralph, Our defenders last season were/are sh!te. By putting more of them on the pitch together this season, you are simply putting more sh!te players out there. You are not making it less likely that they are sh!te. Yours, Saints fans
A 4-1 defeat for the first game to go with a 4-1 defeat on the last game of last season. This was my worry with sticking with Ralph. We are used to losing. BK looked decent in pre season and he doesn’t even get on ahead of Jack bloody Stephens when making subs. Scoring first Throwing away the lead Comedy defending Complete capitulation Wrong tactics Wrong team Strange subs Southampton under RH
Lavia and JWP both positives but that's it. Do the following asap or we are f*cked: Sign a CB that improves the team Ditch "back 3" ****e New striker needed Play strikers up front (crazy idea!) Off load some of the dross
But he does that wriggly finger thing to the fans when we win, and he cried when we beat Liverpool so according to everyone on this board that makes him a jolly good bloke and we should just accept this.
Not sure you're looking at the same board as me. Have you actually read what anyone has posted today or are you commenting about things that you think people have said?
On reflection the burning the ground down comment was a bit far so I'll take that back. But after standing in direct sun for best part of an hour and queuing up for over 10 minutes, to be told they'd run out of water simply isn't good enough. I also don't appreciate being threatened with ejection for pointing out that as a venue that serves alcohol they're legally obliged to also serve water. I then missed the first 10-15 of the second half because they sent hundreds of people to ONE water fountain. Absolutely pathetic and put real downer on the day. Spurs deserved winners. More on actual match later when I'm home. UTFS.
Got to say I expected Saints to lose today but disappointing to see the same mistakes time and time again. Defensiive errors, lack of threat up front, playter played out of position, losing from a winning position and defenders who seem incapable defending. All these things are a trait of Ralph's style of management. The board has been brave in buying young players who the likelihood of developing in to top class talent in the future and re-vamped the coaching squad. The shame is that they should have been really brave a sacked Ralph in May. This is the same kind of issue we had during the last 12 matches of last season. I just don't think that Ralph is a really good coach. There are too many players who should have been shipped out ages ago instead of seeing them fail in their preferred positions and then thinking they might have a second life playing somewhere that is totally alien to them. The wriiting was on the wall for the last few seasons but I am struggling to see the logic in retaining Raph. Granted he is an enigma and has produced some incredible displays but we seem to be able to lose by the same fashion season in, season out without addressing the issue.
I don’t worry what it will do to Bazunus confidence getting thrashed each week. Not a great start but it’s a new season, for better or worse we need to get behind Ralph. Keeping my fingers crossed for 1-2 new signings.
Losing in itself is not the issue. The way in which we lost today is a big worry. It just looked like a continuation of last season. So lightweight in defence. And they were cutting through our midfield like it wasn't there. Add on Ralph's odd team selection and subs. Somethings got to give
Why do I get a funny feeling that there will be a BIG signing just before the forum that will lift us all ahead of the Leeds game?
Is Salisu actually as good as we think he is as well? Another shocking performance today. I know he’s young but can we afford a player with this many mistakes in him? Why have we signed CBS that are 5 & 6th choice?
I've been Salisu's biggest critic for the last 4-5 months. Today though, I actually thought he was playing well in the first half. But that goal unfortunately is just the sort of thing that he is capable of. A huge liability. Shame because 80-90% of the time he's a rock. I would be dropping him before Bednarek. Beddie has looked decent enough with other CB partners. But ultimately, for me, it's all on Ralph these days. He can't make us solid at the back, no matter what combination of players he puts out there. A better manager could play Beddie and Stephens, and have us looking more defensively solid. I'm sure of it.
Someone on here said why would you think we’d continue where we left off last season. Sort of fair comment but that’s been smashed today. ALL of last seasons failings in 90mins. Big game next week, now more than ever.
