Arrived in Soton in 1975 to go to college for 3 years. First game v Blackburn Rovers, Sept 75, 2-1 Saints. Been stuck with Aberdeen and Saints ever since. Its never been boring, what ever league we`re in. In fact, last year in league one was the most exciting I can recall. The despair after Walsall away, then the momentum building in the building, week after week...................
Forced to make a choice between Saints (mum) and West Brom (dad) but as we were living in Eastleigh at the time it didn't take a lot of working out! Love the Baggies (as I loved my dad!) and enjoyed the trips to the Hawthorns with Saints. West Brom fans are brilliant. But it has always been Saints that have made me laugh or cry over the years - and God I'm loving it right now!
Southampton are my first real team. Vaguely looked for Pompey results because I lived there (oh, the shame, the shame!), then Arsenal (because my ex supported them) who I still like when they are not involved in child-traffiking. Took my son to see a Saints/ManU match (because he shamefully supported ManU at the time) and the rest is history. Only Saints can hurt me.
In 1970 Chelsea won the FA Cup, so I decided I supported them. The following year Arsenal won it, so I switched my allegiance. In 1972 my family moved to Southampton - a strange, exotic, slightly scary place - and sent me to Springhill RC Juniors, opposite the Dell. At some point I paid my first visit, and shortly afterwards Peter Osgood and then Charlie George followed me South from Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. Mick Channon is really the man responsible for my lifelong attachment to Saints though - I remember wanting to play like him (no chance) and look like him (also no chance, though his brother did cut my hair).
Only ever been one team for me. My older brother took me to the Dell in 1965 and i was hooked even at the age of 8, i got myself a World Cup Willy scrap book and used to wait outside after the game to get my stuck in black and white photos autographed, Terry Paine, Jimmy Melia and the rest. I MUST get it down out the attic and re jog my memories. My older children leaving in Norway and Nottingham have been brought up the correct way to, i remember my son bringing home a Liverpool scarf when we moved to Devon ( they had no big teams support ) soon went in the bin.
Wiltshire Born and supported Saints since i can remember, brothers support Man U and Liverpool for some reason.
I had a Liverpool top, the horrible yellow one with the red pin stripes! It was peer pressure, ignorance, naivity (7yrs old) my parents allowed it. Enough! I saw the error of my ways, and started to support Saints proper when I was 13 yrs old. Never looked back.
Born and bred in Southampton, both parents from Glasgow (Rangers fans) I remember supporting West Ham until I was about 11 then sudddenly seen the light and supported the Saints ever since. My first game was Saints(2) v Liverpool(2) Dec 1987 I was 7. I also remember Barnes scored not sure who else scored in that game though
My son caught the gooner virus early in his life, and has sadly resisted all attempts to covert him to the one true faith. Shame on you Archers.
