I agree about Broja and although he may turn out to be a great striker, I didn’t see much of a team player there.
There is that but he still needs to develop that coolness when presented with, what we consider, a tap in. The presence of mind to anticipate what the keeper is going to do and place the ball in the net instead of just hitting it.
Most of the best strikers in the world are greedy buggers. Lineker, Shearer, Owen all just had one thing on their mind. And it wasn’t passing.
Ok then, 0-0 92nd minute, ball crossed in by JWP to a free header on the far post with the keeper scrambling back (but not going to make it) 1) Che is there waiting 2) Shane along is there waiting. Which one do you place a bet on to score and you can’t say neither.
Shane Long would be in Reading today and would still have as much chance of putting the ball in back of the net for us as he would standing on the goal line.
Just for the record I've always loved Shane and feel he is a Saints legend. I've always said we never bought him to be a main goalscorer as he had never been that prolific for any of the clubs he has played for we bought him for his never say die attitude and harassing defenders etc.
I know, I don’t feel sorry for Shane. He had a good career, capped many times and made a lot of money. I think there will be times when we wish we still had him, but we were right to let him go.
When was the last time Che scored with his left foot, or had a shot with his left foot? Can you be a successful premier striker when you don't use one foot. Every decent defender will show him his weaker foot..
Barca look yo be in real trouble. May well need a bit of a fire sale of squad players this week to afford the players they've already 'bought'. We've been linked with a few.
He wont leave unless they pay him the £5m owed in wages, he's very shrewd with money, Barca's richest player with his investments.
We desperately need a clever striker who can read the game and score, oh and add Connor Coady to that. He's exactly the leader at the back we need.
So, looks like we need at least one (but probably two) new strikers. Adam Armstrong looks like a competition winner and Mara isn't even trusted enough for a spot on the bench yet.
AA needs to be loaned out IMO and yes we need not only to buy a striker but also play Che…….baffled today.
