Is it just me that thinks the matchday thread should be the one thread without all
the off-topic stuff on it ?

Games gone soft, away games used to be like an excursion into the jungles of Viet Kong territory when I were a lad.

I believe there’s also a third off the cost of the card currently (unless it’s the code that brings it down to the £30/£70?)

Apologies in advance if I’ve given you duff information

Going forward, yes. But he was responsible for their goal. He was skinned by their winger on another occasion which should have led to them scoring again. Acun overlooked those in his highlight reel. Possibly get away with it at home, but not away from home. Get him up top!

He wasn't responsible for their goal though, was he? Oscar lost his man and he let (Naismith?) get the ball back across the goal. Ally also should've had an assist as Oscar probably gets on that ball he crossed through if he's 100%

You have to weigh the pros and the cons but the wing backs have to be good going forwards or the system doesn't work because there's no out ball and it's a position you rely on creativity for. We saw it too many times last season. I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of defensive solidity for some creativity going forwards. We can't just play ultra defensively all the time and then whinge that the forwards never get service.

Our most successful wingbacks in recent history are Brady and Elmo, both of whom are wingers and both had issues defensively but they offered so much going forward it was completely worth it.

On the other side, it's going to be Brady against Coyle with lots of space. I really hope injuries have got the better of Robbie because if he's anything like the player he was, Coyle is going to be in for a very long afternoon.

Even from watching a few Youtube clips on Laryea, he played so far forward as a wingback for Toronto it's pretty mad. I don't like taking much at all from Youtube clips but he's certainly an attacking wingback and it's pretty clear that's the type of player we're looking for.

Coyle and Elder are both solid full backs, but they aren't wingbacks and it's certainly not a position either of them suit. We saw last year, albeit very briefly, that Elder actually looked pretty good in the LCB position. It probably suits them both more, they can have the occasional foray forward but their primary role is to defend which plays to their strengths.

    This.

Also, we’ll see won’t we? If Elder plays today and we lose due to not getting in their half of the pitch often enough, then that will back the theory up. Or if we play Allahyar there again, and we look a proper threat going forward and draw/win.

If we win/draw (creating a decent amount of chances) with Elder on the left, then we can all relax and know we can play either!
