Having worked there several years ago and knowing the 'brains' behind the commercial operation, I can't say I am surprised! <laugh><laugh><laugh>

    Here we go again.....

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-62435996

    This is what he said:

Mr Tyler made his comments while being interviewed about the Premier League launch in 1992 by Today presenter Martha Kearney and Justin Webb.

He said the game was "in a bit of a crisis at that time", adding: "We weren't that long after Hillsborough and other hooligan-related issues as well, so it was a very much a difficult time for the game generally."

Pretty obvious to me that he is referring to them as two completely separate things.

Dunno, that sentence to me definitely carries the implication that hooliganism played a part in Hillsborough. Which we all know it didn't.

I’d want to hear the interview rather than judge the transcript. Reading it , it can be ambiguous. Those who want to find it offensive will find enough in the transcript to do so, those who want to find nothing will equally be able to do so

I think the "as well" part would suggest he didn't mean to link the two.

On the other hand the 'and other' seems like he's definitely linking the two together.

No one knows for sure though and PP makes an excellent point about the written word.

Yeah, agreed with PP on that. I don't see Tyler as a bad sort at all.

Not if there was a comma after the word “other”, which would imply that Hillsborough didn’t fall into the same category.

Personally I think Tyler didn't intend to imply that Hillsborough was caused by hooliganism and I'm sure he doesn't believe that. I just think it was a poor choice of words at the time.

You would only take offense at the level that the Mayor and the two MP's did if you are looking for it. It's almost as if they're are in competition to see who can be the most offended. There was enough in the way he phrased that sentence to doubt that he made it in the way they've accused him of but no, let's jump in with both feet. They overreact and everyone has to grovel out an apology.

League cup draw tonight <diva> Loads of potential good aways which are relatively local:

    Charlton
    Exeter
    Wycombe
    Oxford
    Stevenage
    Cambridge

From a bit further afield then Bradford, Grimsby, Shrewsbury, Lincoln would all be decent too.

Our fishy friends are also in the hat...

No doubt we'll get MK at home :(

Annoyingly I'm in Chesterfield when the 2nd round is played and as the round is localised there's no chance of an away tie at a northern team.
