One good thing about the Championship. I'm not a season ticket holder or paid member and just booked a ticket for me and my daughter against Wigan £31.50 p No Covid-19 bollocks either so should get to quite a few games this season
Nice, go see the cup game too as it is helping out disabled supporters get to games: https://www.canaries.co.uk/content/proceeds-from-carabao-cup-fixture-to-go-towards-foundation
I've not managed to catch much of the pre-season action but I keep hearing Gibbs' name come up (in a positive way). Is he likely to be in contention?
I suspect he's in the matchday squad until later in August when Hayden, Sara, and a new midfielder are all fit and ahead of him in the pecking order. He's got about a month to make a big impression in cameo appearances, otherwise I suspect he'll head out on loan.
I found this really interesting. Cheers Suffolk. He's quite up front about a number of issues. Well worth a watch if you've got 20 mins.
Yes I meant to post my comments about it, I thought he spoke really well and addressed a number of issues that have been on fans minds. As mentioned at the Scottish fan forum, it appears the sale of Michael Foulgers shares will complete in the next few weeks.
https://theanalyst.com/eu/2022/07/efl-players-to-watch-in-2022-23/ Interesting analysis of Sara, and the potential for him to link with Pukki. The bit about his recent injury history doesn't fill me with confidence! At least the Brazilian league has a reputation for being physical, which should help his transition to the Championship.
From what I have read most of his injuries are contact injuries rather than muscle/ligament personal type.
No Byram or Gibson in the training pictures this week, with Hanley suspended does that mean Sorensen at CB alongside Omobamidele, or does Tomkinson get the nod? Not a great sign that one game into the season we might have a decidedly makeshift central defence or central midfield.
Presumably they will have played together on quite a few occasions for the youth academy, so they may perhaps be a stronger pairing as they could have developed an understanding.
Those two emerging as a first choice pairing this season (for the right reasons!) would be perfect. Omobamidele (and Aarons) are really our only defenders who have shown signs of being able to play up to mid-table Prem levels, Tomkinson emerging as a third would be a big bonus.
It would be great if Smith thought Tomkinson was ready for a start. But, I think, given things aren't looking good right now, he'll be more conservative and go with Sorensen at CB.
I'd rather we prioritise putting out the best midfield we can. Start with the midfield, then see what back four options we are left with. If that means Tomkinson getting his chance, good for him, he won't disgrace himself.
I dont feel that Sorensen is part of our best midfield. He has always been very basic when he has actually started there. I think he would provide more experience than Tomkinson at CB Id sooner go with Sara McLean Nunez, with Sorensen at CB. It's early in the season, the sooner we throw the new boys in, the sooner they will get up to speed- imo. In saying all that, as you say, if Tomkinson gets his chance, fine by me. It just means DS thinks highly of him.
For anyone interested, below is a link to Bethnal Yellow & Green's preview of the season, published a week ago on his blog: https://byag.medium.com/22-23-season-preview-eb5558ed036b
Yes, I'd agree with all that, if Núñez is available. I haven't yet seen confirmation that his work permit has been issued. Also it needs McLean to be disciplined in the DM role.
CB not an issue really given the team news: "Sara has trained all week and is available. We’re waiting on some paperwork for Marcelino and I don’t expect issues with that so he should be available too. At centre-back, Grant Hanley is suspended following his two bookings at Cardiff, but Ben Gibson is available having trained all week. The same can be said for Kieran Dowell, who is available to face his former club. Jonathan Rowe has had a scan following a stress related injury on his shin. “He’ll be out for a while, but we’re not sure how long,” Smith said." https://www.canaries.co.uk/content/team-news-sara-and-nunez-in-contention-for-wigan
