This could go on the politics thread, but more fitting for here I think. Listening to Rory Stewart’s series “The Long History of Argument” on the wireless. Excellent and thought provoking. Little surprise that Stewart has turned his back on conventional British politics, far too bright and balanced.

Brilliant. Off to Somerset in a few minutes to stay with one of my European footy trip mates - a few walks, beers and good food……

Saw Joe Jackson and his band tonight and have to say he did an amazing job. He might be 68 but his voice had hardly changed. Tight 4-piece band and 90 minute set that had the whole crowd on its feet in appreciation. Well worth the wait after covid delays.

Peace and love, 90s style.....what could possibly go wrong

Great three-part documentary about Woodstock 99....as the title suggest, a total Trainwreck. Yanks are such arseholes

Watched it at the weekend. Impressive how something on that scale can be so poorly organised. Promoters were unbelievably arrogant too.

The Fyre Festival documentary on Netflix is worth watching too, if you liked this.

Watched the Fyre doc...enjoyed it, but it's hard to feel too much sympathy for kids who can afford to rock up to a festival with a minimum $3000 spending budget! I'd be more than happy with one of those white tents if that was my home for a festival (depending on how much I'd paid for it, of course). Terrible mismanagement by the Fyre team though. Cutting corners on events like that never pay off, and Billy McFarland ended up in jail for four years for fraud.

I'm currently sitting open-mouthed and drooling in stunned disbelief at the utter drivel I've just sat through on BBC1. Marriage, stars Sean Bean and Nicola Walker - two excellent actors - so it was reasonable to assume that in the course of an hour of television 'drama' something might happen. Nothing did.

Horrendous and thoroughly depressing in its emptiness.

Just got back from To Kill a Mocking Bird at the Gielgud theatre. A magnificent production with some superb performances, particularly by Richard Coyle as Atticus Finch and Gwyneth Keyworth as his daughter, Scout. The script, by Aaron Sorkin, is surprisingly humorous, whilst retaining all the power of the book. I was in tears at the end, but maybe not just because of the play.

Just watched this on Netflix, and I have to say it is one of the sickest and saddest tales I've ever heard. It's left me open mouthed and in tears, truly horrific. Still can't really take it in

Saw Brad Pitt’s ‘Bullet Train’ last night. Stylised violence and a crisp script in a Guy Ritchie vein. Good cast and entertaining. Didn’t see enough of the train, though. Choo, choo!

Just watched Black Bird....six episode mini series on Apple TV if you've got it, other streaming services available....

Only started to watch it because Mogwai had done the music score, but it's very good. Based on a true story, James Keene is a high school American Football superstar who gets involved in drugs trafficking and guns and ends up with a ten year sentance. He's offered a chance to have his whole sentance commuted, but he must transfer to max security prison and befriend Larry Hall, a suspected child serial killer, and ellicit a confession from him as to where all his victims are buried.

Some excellent performances, Taron Egerton good as Jimmy Keene, but Paul Walter Hauser is excellent as the creepy Larry Hall. Cinematography really goid, and as always, Mogwais' atmospheric score really adds to the tension of the story. Recommended

Just seen some of this. Deeply odd. Bean is a very, very good actor and acts his little socks off in this. But I couldn’t care less about him or any of the other characters. They should have done a fly on the wall documentary in a middle aged couples’ house if they wanted total naturalism and the minutiae of life.

    Fake or Fortune on BBC1.

Enjoyable programme, and by its nature only a few can be done every year. Always learn something from them.

Jeopardy in this one. If the French experts say that the picture, perhaps by Sisley, is a fake, they will burn it. Or so my daughter tells me.

So the French Sisley Committee has already rejected this painting in 2015. Now they are asking it to overturn its own judgement….admit fallibility ….mais non, c’est impossible!
