For what it's worth I don't think Elder is amazing defensively, he's steady but if he is against a tricky winger with pace he always has problems. Any wingback coming up against Elder knows he offer little offensively so it's not something they have to worry about too much. When they play against Allahyar it's completely different. He's an absolute animal physically, he's as strong as an ox, lightning quick and can run for days. He marshalled Sykes really well today (who started very lively). Yes he does give away daft fouls but he's such an good outlet forward it's worth it.

It's not like Bristol are ****e going forwards either, Weimann scored 22 last year, Martin got 12 and they've got Scott too who's a fantastic player. I appreciate they were missing Semenyo but they've probably got a top 6/8 strike force. And they created very little and didn't look particularly dangerous

We wouldn't have won today if Elder played LWB, Sykes would have pinned him in and had a lot of success against him and then they'd have brought Wilson on who'd have rubbed salt in the wounds. Everyone seems to play 3 at the back in the Championship which means the wingbacks see more time on the ball then pretty much anyone. If you want any kind of success the wingbacks need to be players that can make a difference

They created very little because once they scored they showed very little interest in doing much of anything other than falling on the floor.

My original comment about Ally praised his ability going forward so I think we're saying the same thing.

I think that's a very bold conclusion to make but it's daft arguing hypotheticals. I'm commenting on the actual game. Ally gave away a lot of fouls and Slater sacrificed a lot of his game to help him. That's not sustainable.

But against Leicester & P'boro we struggled to get any foothold in the game because we didn't have an outlet. All of a sudden today we had one and magically looked better

Yes they were only pre season games, but everyone was whinging 7 days ago and it's the only real change we made. Allahyar is a player we want on the ball as much as possible and playing at wing back gives us that.

Yes, Slater did have to sacrifice a bit but I'd much rather sacrifice Slater so that we can actually create. The more he plays there, the less he'll need Slater to help out. So of course it's sustainable. We won and it was one of the best home performances under Shota regardless of result.

Elder most certainly isn't the answer to the LWB position and it's not a point that can even be debated. As cover he's fine but it's also a bit daft to say that it's a coincidence that they had more joy once he came on. They did, and it's no coincidence because it happened all last year too which is why Fleming became the starter

Something I forgot to comment on - the stadium looked absolutely brilliant. Looked packed full and the noise was brilliant. Can only imagine it helps the players and spurs them on. More of that week in week out! Loved it. As OLM said, feels like the old days.

But don't forget we were lucky to win because Tetteh conned the ref. <doh>

Where did you encounter all these magnanimous Bristol fans?

You've posted on this thread several times you watched the game on a stream?

Did they pop to Brid after the match just to say JWD to you Castro?

Allahyar’s average position of the game (number 9), Slater 27. Clearly been planning for it for a while as you don’t have that shape without doing that!

Glad it's not just me. Iirc all the talk was about it being impossible to call. Two clubs that had surprised the "experts" etc etc.

Although the fact we finished 3rd and the way we brushed Watford aside would have made us favourites surely

I was referring to the play offf final at Wembley. The fact I was replying to Wessie Exile’s post which was referencing the Bristol fans comment about Wembley was a clue.

    Sounds about right.

Many fans obviously delighted with yesterdays events and rightly so considering all the changes the clubs gone through these past few months. This league is unforgiving so the sooner we get everyone onboard and fully fit the better we should be able to cope and hopefully compete.

First and foremost what a joyous occasion, great atmosphere, and a real pleasure to be part of it. Secondly, and it has not been mentioned much, but Ingram's save in the first half from that header was an absolute worldy. I was just to the right of the goal and thought it was going in, but it was one hell of a save.

No one had a poor game, Tufan looked neat and tidy, Seri was excellent, Slater just gets better, Allahyar is a pleasure to watch, and the back 3, and particularly Greaves were good all game. Both Oscar and Tetteh look promising and will get better. I going to give Coyle a special mention, as I thought he has an excellent game.

The move of the match for me was the one where Tufan hit the post, if that had gone in, it would have been an excellently worked goal. Nevertheless, once these players play more together I think you will see more moves like that.

Finally, wasn't it great to see the players and management at the end, clearly a team with a good dressing room feeling still.
