Think the issue is that your salary bill is running at over 80% of your revenue which is one of the highest in the PL. You are probably right that others are spending more but they have much higher turnovers. Its only an FFP issue as your owners are happy to support you but its obviously one that they are taking seriously and other clubs are testing the water by putting in lowball bids for players. I believe Rodgers has already said he can't buy unless he sells so it is clear their is an underlying requirement not to increase costs.

Selling expensive players on the cheap, if they are on inflated wages, may be a necessary evil, depending on how they are valued on the books. If they are effectively undervalued (i.e. you can get more for them than their remaining value in the accounts) AND at the same time get an expensive salary off the books the club may be open to selling.

Very good post mate ... and the key point is not to 'increase' costs ...

On the books point, I'm not entirely sure but would suspect they are carried as 'fixed assets' on the balance sheet ...selling for undervalue would therefore further weaken the value of the company and the ability of the club to borrow, should that be required - so, broadly, it ain't gonna happen with the best players on longer contracts. Tielemans asset 'value' will no doubt have been depreciated as his contract has run down.

We play Sevilla today and the starting line-up in our final 'prestigious' friendly usually indicates the team that starts the first league game ... barring injury. So it will be interesting to see what that is - because there would be little point in playing individuals about to leave <cheers>

Yep. They are treated as fixed assets and depreciated over the length of the contract so with players who have come up through the ranks and developed quickly they may be undervalued on the books, which means that you can sell them, take a profit on their book value, and also reduce costs.

We have just played Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao on successive days with two entirely different 11’s and beaten them both (1-0 and 2-1) so we are ready to go. It was a bit touch and go yesterday at the end as we gave the 11 almost the full 90mins and they changed 7 at half time. What was amazing was we had crowds of 41000 and 46000 for these two home games.

The club and city is absolutely buzzing.
