Yup. I can remember Peter crouch 11 games in and no goals getting all sorts but he did "alright" in the end. This lad is a lot better. I can remember kuyt arriving and people thinking he'd be gods gift never having seen him and the reaction wasn't great til rafa got a nice turn out of him and torres. Diaz and nunez are part of a plan. Klopps only delivered everything for us so why start losing the head? This social media stuff just gets worse and worse. It's accelerating if anything
We've been stable for a long time though, consistent performances and results too. So there is a bug unknown to some extent and will likely take time for them to bed imo. Really need Salah to hit the ground running this season.
It'd help if he crossed and didn't tap/shoot from insanely.narrow angles cos frankly if anyone is to blame for a.meaningless friendly defeat it'd the world.class player in the hunt for the golden ball who knows full well its a tap in but still has a go hoping keeper isn't expecting it. Firmino was in the middle waiting. Same old same old. Nunez did OK but needed to release the shot first time. He has been caught about 4 times in preseason in the box turning and tapping with the ball rather than hitting one first time and he then gets called a donkey as he looms awkward. Shoot early, shoot often. Stay in the width of the six yard box and finish. That's a classic 9. Coming massively shot and cutting off the cut back type ball then crossing to no one is no use either.
He isn’t a classic old school number 9 though. And I doubt klopp wants him to be that player. At benfica hed drift to the left and play from there cutting in. Picking up the ball and running at defenders.
Klopp says Ali and Jota will be out for this one. Ali should be back for Fulham but Jota may take a little while. Pre season will continue into the season and will be another behind doors friendly day after Fulham game for squad players.
If memory serves me right, it was actually a bit different for Andy Carroll; Liverpool got stick for the fee but Carroll did well initially before turning to ****. Crouch was evidently a decent player, he was just struggling for goals.
Yeah, same for firmino as well. People wondering what the **** and all through we have heard we couldn't win with a cf who doesn't score.
Yes, Crouch got a lot of scorn from rivals over that. The funny thing is though:. Yes, he went on a long barren spell and forwards aren't supposed to do that, but he was actually playing well, even in those 11 games. Didn't get the end result but he was helping the team out, getting into positions, assisting others. It's not like he was playing badly but some who didn't actually watch the games bashed him for his lack of goals.
I felt he was trying to hard to be "a liverpool player" Match going fans were very supportive of his work but in the end if your centre forward is running away from goal holding the ball just to show he's more than a big freak it's not actually thr right think so all the applause he got for doing it, well the side never scored off thst stuff. I prefer to remember that hat trick in cl with the overhead kick in it. Strikers should strike. They don't need to be all over the park or involved in general build up as well. They need to finish. Firmino was different in that he actually didn't need to score par se as he was tasked to do all the other things while salah and mane went beyond to score. Only time will tell with nunez and klopp's ask of him.
Felt a bit like was of those Liverpool strikers tonight; scored one, assisted two, hit the woodwork three times and had one cleared off the line!!!
Yup. And crouch wasn't exactly a rafa type player either The thing about nunez is klopp has shown exactly what he would do with a no 9 at dortmund so i reckon we got exactly what klopp wanted
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that first-choice centre-back Aymeric Laporte will miss at least the first month of the season following knee surgery.
No but I am suggesting that laporte was not first choice as he was playing up on contract when dias arrived.
