Are those just the detention centre people? Anyway my mate is still actually commuting as he lives in Folkestone and as he says many of his shifts are very commutable ...and he plays gigs in Kent on his nights off. He says some stay over, a few he mentioned have relationships in Calais area. ...but as he says for him a several others he works with it is an easy commute, better than commuting to london. It is just an ordinary job, and people make their own way of doing it...no blanket statement. Mind you, he is thinking of getting out...very understaffed, little recruitment, no forward thinking from management and a lot of abuse from passengers
I don't know if they're just detention centre people, but the paper seems to be out of date anyway. I think the position is, as you say, there are some that commute and some that weekly commute. I have no idea what the practice is on the other side of the Channel
Just heard on the radio about communities planning to get together to form 'Warm Banks' for the winter. These are facilities where people who can't afford to pay their fuel bills can go to keep warm for a few hours. This in the 5th biggest economy in the world. To quote our next PM, when talking about cheese, THAT IS A DISGRACE.
Germany is disproportionately reliant on Russian gas. How about comparing us to France where they were able to cap energy price rises at 4%.
The problem is, with a change of Tory leader, we don't know what the government will do about energy until September when we have a new prime minister. I imagine the energy issue will hit from about October onwards, so we'll see how the government reacts. I would have thought a policy aimed at the most in need, rather than a general cap would be preferable
Taxing the **** out of these profiteering energy companies would be a start, seeing as both Centrica and Shell have posted record profits in the first half of the year https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62330190
There are three players involved - Johnson, Truss and Sunak. They are all Tories. Until a couple of weeks ago they all sat round the same cabinet table. How difficult is it for them to sit down together today, agree a policy/support to be followed whoever is prime minister and just get on with it. Or does the world have to stop while we wait for the tallest dwarf contest to be completed?
Why is it so urgent that it can't wait until a new pm is in place in September? We're in between heatwaves at present.
? You were the one who stated it’s a problem. Because people need to plan their budgets. Currently predicted a rise of between 64 and 78% in October, then another rise in January, and no return to ‘normal’ prices for at least 3 years. Might not be a big issue for you, or me, but many people are stressed to buggery about this, on top of rampant food inflation. Anyway, what do you think about the, from my perspective quite reasonable, idea that these Tories get together and agree a policy in the very near term?
Agree with this. It seems that for so many years so much was done to bring people together, no matter your sexuality, religion, ethnicity, skin colour etc etc. The last few years, with Brexit and Trump being Te'o key factors, that tide has turned and people seem less tolerant of those who are different, without recognising that we all have our differences, which we expect others to tolerate, but so many don't have the patience to tolerate others. Allowing segregation only supports intolerance and close mindedness, getting to know people who are not like you can be challenging but also fascinating. I'm very surprised this restaurant has been allowed to do this, and hope the idea won't spread.
I know. Cut taxes and public spending but promise billions for everybody so that we can all get on and do whatever we like without interference from the state. Now there's a policy the Tories can all rally around and agree on. In fact the only policies they ever come up with at election time. Saying 'You don't want him' or 'can't trust X' is not a policy. It's a nasty little habit or practice of theirs.
The problem I was referring to was one of decision making. Energy will be a problem from the autumn, the degree will depend to some extent on Russia. I have no idea whether Sunak or Truss could agree on an energy policy at this stage, but given the hustings, I suspect not. The matter must be determined by the new pm in September. There will be a new Chancellor and a new budget then.
I’m actually aware of French cricket teams, it’s currently one of the fastest growing sports there. Currently ranked 52 in the ICC rankings, it was meant as a joke. Oh and I believe they have deodorants too
