Those would be my next three, Bure - in the same order as well. ;)

Interesting, no Hoolahan or Buendia? I am too young to know the Martin Peters era, obviously I know the name.

Holt, Huckerby and Pukki would certainly be considered for my top 3, but for me Buendia is the most technically brilliant we have had and I would also consider the relatively small fee we paid compared to the sale price we received.

Wes and Emi are both very special players, but Martin Peters was exceptional. He played 207 games for us from 1975-1980, scoring 44 goals, and always stood out from all of the players on the pitch. His presence lifted our other players. This from Wiki sums him up for me:

Peters was known as "the complete
midfielder" as he could pass the ball well with either foot, was good in the air and difficult to mark because of his movement. A free kick specialist, he was described by England manager Sir Alf Ramsey, after a game against Scotland in 1968, as being "ten years ahead of his time".

Just looked him up on Transfermarket.com and he plays mainly in midfield, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or at right-back, so could cover for Max/Sam if we needed cover there. Only 22yrs old

Bit out of the blue, but I presume in depth research and scouting has been completed. The cost would seem to be covered by the sale of Lees-Melou and Emi came out of nowhere in the same way so let's hope he'll fit in quickly and hit the ground running.

For those interested in wanting to know how good our potential new signing is, I've just seen this:

Looks very much like a CM version of Emi. Good on the ball in tight spots, good vision for a through ball... Puki would love him.... and can finish. Also takes corners and free kicks.

Yes he does look a lot like Emi with similar skills. That he can also play at RB suggests that he's got the defensive skills as well. Thanks Jedi. <cheers>

Wouldn't mind seeing a midfield 3 of Sara, Hayden and Nunez behind Rashica/Cantwell, Pukki/Idah and Sinani/Hernandez

Looking at those two compilation videos I was impressed with his close hall control. He was literally putting tacklers on their backsides. And like the Sara transfer, totally out of the blue. Been in the works for a while I guess, hence the PLM sale. Looking forward to Sara and Nunez operating together, and so is Pukki I would think. <bubbly>

Don't know about South American football writers, but I've been dreaming of a City midfield without McLean in it for the past two years ...................

More likely that it's analysis of video footage like you suspected in the Sara analysis from the same source. This bit caught my eye:

Núñez "loves to make runs into the right half-space to receive possession and connect play as he used this sequence of movement to receive possession in between the lines and drive the ball forward to thread a pass past two opposition midfielders to his striker in the nine-space. The midfield maestro would receive possession in the right half-space again to work a one-two with a teammate to receive possession in space to allow the ball to roll across his body to control the pass with his left foot before switching an accurate ball to the opposite flank. Nunez is tailor-made for positional play sequences as he thrives in receiving possession in between the lines, especially in the left half-space as his blind-sided movement is impeccable, subtly side-stepping into space at the perfect moment to receive possession as he has a fantastic range of passing as well as a penchant for through balls and progressive passes."

As with Sara, these are the front foot skills we've been missing to achieve rapid progression through the thirds before the opposing defence is settled. Pukki is going to love these two providing through balls to him on a regular basis. Like others, I eagerly look forward to seeing them play together.

Definitely sounds like Emi to me (and I wont judge him by the same standards yet... even if I am hoping. He will need time), playing in the right side and then cropping up in the left to create some magic and confuse defenders.

In the videos it was his strength in shielding the ball and quick feet under pressure that most reminds me of Emi though.
