It's no coincidence that Kane's being linked to Bayern and Chelsea. Both have seen their senior centre forward leave - Lewandowski and Lukaku; neither have been able to sign a replacement who plays centrally (they've brought in Mane and Stirling, who offer different attributes) and neither are likely to get one of any quality...let alone Harry Kane. I see these stories as the standard arse covering tactic..."We tried to tempt Kane, this summer and will sign him next summer..." to placate their entitled fan base. There's been no serious attempt to do the first and I'd seriously doubt either will succeed in the second.
He will sign a new contract this year, he obviously wants Shearer's record. City and Pool have just signed strikers so the opportunity to go to either is greatly reduced. I think we stand as good a chance as anyone to challenge for trophies this season. The only club I could see one day being in a position to sign Kane would be Newcastle, however that's way down the line.
I think he’d sack off Shearer’s record for trophies to be honest but I do think he’ll stay now for the foreseeable future whilst inking a new deal. I just hope he and Son are rewarded for their efforts sooner rather than later, Lloris too, there’s not many more players deserving of team honours than those three.
Alasdair Gold claims the club are looking at marc Guehi as a signing for next summer I think that might answer the questions about Sanchez's future...
I agree about Bayern, but I think that Chelsea got dragged into it by German hacks. They know that we don't deal with each other and missing out is not helpful for their owners. They've got a lot still to do in the transfer market and an apparently unhappy manager. I'm sure that the Bavarians will tap up some unfortunate Bundesliga side's star, instead. They've bought in Mathys Tel from Rennes for about £25m, but he's only 17. Might grab a freebie from the pile of pretty famous, aging names. Cavani, Mertens, Costa, Belotti, Henrik Larsson's son, City legend Jo, Saido Berahino...
I think Kane will sign a new contract too, but I think that he will insist on a release clause that can be activated if certain targets are not achieved in the next 2 years.
My immediate thought is to look at how long last season's top scorers who haven't left for Barca or The Sheikh Mansour Team Patrik Schick (Leverkusen) - 2027 Anthony Modeste (Koln) - 2023 ...okay, so the main takeaway is that strikers don't actually score in the Bundesliga, as only four (the top four, admittedly...) of last season's ten top scorers are actually strikers. Oh, and A German Team are ****ed next summer, as Jonas Hofmann will be out of contract and we all know what that means...
The likes of Kane, Son, Lloris etc may well ‘deserve’ a trophy but let’s not forget they’re all a part of the teams/squads that have failed to win one too.
I’d love to see de Bruyne, Benzema and co win trophies with the likes of Winks, Sissoko, Aurier, Lo Celso etc in their teams.
An oft repeated comment by you. Players don't deserve anything. Playing for certain clubs may increase the probability of winners medals, but even then your best moments can be undone by worse moments by your team-mates. Just call a spade a spade : you want to go to a club X more likely to win trophies than your current one Y, and if they don't, you at least are more likely to have a better salary than than paid by Y.
He weren’t too shabby as a super sub to be fair, the guy just thought he was prime R9 Ronaldo though.
Fair point but in a Spurs shirt when it’s really matters in a final, the whole squad including the 3 mentioned have all done little. Of course Kane and Son are good enough to win trophies but they have to stand up and put in the performances in the finals too.
The team has definitely faltered but then we’ve gone into finals with some real below-par starting XIs to say the least, not helped by managerial decisions either. Kane and Son are world class players but they’re not miracle workers, look at some of the starting players in our two recent finals: League Cup - Aurier, a poor Dier, declining Toby, Winks and Lo Celso. Champions League - injured Trippier, declining Rose, Sissoko*, declining Dele, whilst Kane and Winks were rushed back after months out and the guy that got us to the final was benched. *had a really good season in fairness but realistically a Sissoko and Winks midfield for a CL final feels incredibly insulting to the competition.
What always annoys me is when you hear that a player wants to "challenge themselves" by moving to a team that is more likely to win trophies. No. It's actually a challenge to stay at the same club and make that one better. Going to a team that's always likely to win isn't a challenge at all!
Guehi is left footed, I think he is probably plan C if we can't sign Bastoni or Gvardiol next summer.
This. If Kane had gone to City last summer and won the league, would it really be a big achievement? Don’t get me wrong, you’re obviously doing something right if you’re wanted by a club that can afford anyone but it’s not really a huge success to join a team that wins the league most seasons anyway.
