I think Kelleher has already broken out. I don't think Ramsay ( and a lot of the others) will get much time. There are only 3 real contenders, Jones, Elliott and Carvalho. Jones has all the attributes but has to be less timid. Elliott started the first games of the season before getting injured so it's clear that Klopp sees him as good enough to start. With that in mind, he has the best chance of a breakout season. I'm excited to see what Carvalho brings but don't see him getting a massive amount of time. All in all we are in a great position depth wise.
I think they’ll get game time. With 5 subs, may see them get more 10-15 minute cameos though rather than lots of starts etc. plus klopp will no doubt go to the youth during the early cip games, especially with so much football crammed into short space of time - pretty much every 3 days this season.
Can you say it's a break out season for Carvalho when we've only just signed him? Would we call it a break out season for Darwin Nunez?
I keep forgetting about the 5 subs this season so you're probably right. It doesn't necessarily guarantee that the youngsters will get more time though as we haven't always used all 3 subs and still may not even when 5 are allowed especially if we are in 1-0 situations deep into a game. Will be interesting to see what actually happens.
It will be a breakout season for Carvalho if he is a regular starter because I don't think many think he will be also he hasn't played football at the top level yet which Nunez has.
You are far more knowledgeable than me so I will take your word on it as I don't watch any Championship or world football
ah ha! but what about player son loan? could one become the next harry wilson and have a massive buzz while the rest sit on benches and do nothing? who knows.....
If you got bought for big money (nunez) then you can't be the young lad coming through. Carvalho has 36 championship games and 10 goals and 8 assists under his belt. thats pretty good. you'd be right in calling that pretty much on the scene even though its championship.
What do we consider a "breakout". Being a first team regular or just proving yourself good enough for the Liverpool red? Was Tsimi considered a breakout last season? Still #2 to Andy Rob, but proved himself an excellent footballer. If Ramsay proves himself to be the Scottish equal of Tsimi is he considered breakout? Or does he have to displace TAA and claim his starting spot. I think Ram could become the Scottish Tsimi, but I don't think he is going to replace TAA anytime soon. If breakout means becoming a regular starter, the only opportunity for anyone is in the midfield.
I would have called it elevation from hot prospect to wow there is a STAR. Nunez is already a star. Elliott is not. No caps, no huge rep outside LFC right now. Same for jones and TBH carvalho is no star either. Tsimikas is an old hand, a season pro so he is what he is. a squad player. a real nice surprise but still a senior pro. If ramsay does what tsimikas does it'd be a huge huge breakout moment. nobody knows who he is outside Scotland. If i were pushed i'd say has to play at least 20 games in whatever form and have pundits raving. We all hear the hot prospects but theres a huge difference between being a Pacheco or a suso getting the odd sub game and flaoting about and being a raheem sterling. 5 years ago trent played 19 games. 1 assist 1 goal. the year before he barely played 12 u23 games, the year after he won the CL and made 16 assists in the season. maybe trent first season is what a breakout season looks like.
Barring injuries, it's going to be very hard for anyone to get a large number of games who isn't already established this year in attack or defense. The bar for our first team forwards and defenders is too high. Kelleherer would have been a breakout star anywhere else, but no one is replacing Becker in goal. The only place we're thin, the only place a breakout star could occur for us is in midfield. So that's just Elliott or Jones, right? I think Jones has had his opportunity, but was just a tad too flat. Elliott could almost be said to have already broken out.... He's the only one who could really become a star this season. Carvalho is unfortunate to be behind a whole bunch of big names. Unless Firm and Salah leave, I can't see him getting many games unless he is world class already. Not with them, Jota, Darwin already ahead of him.
Neither do I I think meaning most hadn't heard of either until last season so must have been done sort of breakout season for them to have become known
I knew about Carvalho as there was talk about him when Fulham was last up . He has played in PL and has scored even if it was just 4 apps and a single goal .
