getting buggered by kenny miller would probably less exhausting physically and mentally than running 1,100 miles in 51 days <ok>

his eye pits do scare me though

    Try these sites
    http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/
    http://www.mandmdirect.com/default.asp?a=resetsearch

    Essentials you'll need are:

Walking boots (might be able to use your site ones.
Big warm jacket (again site jacket would work although it'll look ****)
    Water bottle
    Socks
    More socks
    Another 5 pairs of socks
    Compass
    Knife
Fruit and snack bars for nutrition
    Sleeping bag

I'm sorted for everything apart from the jacket, and I'll probably buy a hiking bag as well. Should we just meet at the start point or does anyone else know a good meeting point?

Dont think anyone is coming with me either, I'm not too fussed about that though.

I reckon I'll probably look to spend about 100 quid for stuff. Will have a look at what I have just now I could use. You forgot to put a manbag as an essential Frank <laugh>

I was thinking of getting the train from central to Milngavnie and then find my way there. How you planning on getting there?

Walking the WHW with a manbag would be some sight. Think my Grandad would kill me with his bare hands for that.

I only spent £17 on my outdoor jacket, £12 on a knife, £3 on a compass and £5 on an inside fleece. I'm only going to take a wee rucksack which will contain, socks, rope, ordnance maps, torch and food <ok> The sleeping back will sit beside it.

I want to kill a rabbit or something and eat it on this trek.

Thats not as much as I was expecting <ok> I might try nick one of the OS maps we have in the office. We have 3 or 4 copies of each one <ok>

I'll need to get a rucksack but will see about getting deals with it. Barras for a knife or even a sword <ok> You taking a wee foldaway tent or anything?

I'll get more site socks ordered today I think. We get big fleecey ones that are brilliant

OS maps are ****e, better off with a ****ing A-Z. Its all mapped out on the website anyway. Those Ordnance maps are only about 7 quid.

I'm not going to bother with a tent, just going to sleep rough with a makeshift shelter. Cant see me spending much time sleeping anyway as I want to be finished by the Sunday morning <ok>

if you want to save on weight just get a bivvy bag for your sleeping bag (the survival ones are £3 or something) and buy a poncho and some bungee cords/string/tent pegs, if the two of you team up you can also split the weight of a tent if you go with that <ok> go for a camelbak aswell if you see one cheap, it'll be great for the cycling <ok>

we're cheating and going for it in a oner so not even bothering with that.

Think I'll just take a sleeping bag and wear some thick clothes. I got my hair all cut off on Monday so not got that a cushion anymore <laugh>

Will have a look online for stuff over the weekend and hopefully get everything sorted. I'll need hiking boots now so I can wear them in. My company won't get us any, we need to wear steel toe cap and midsole wellies <doh>

    <laugh>

get a bivvy bag at least mate, a pissed wet through sleeping bag isnt much fun, plus it weighs about 10 times as much as a dry one when you're lugging it about <ok>

another thing thats helped me is wear really thin cotton socks under your walking socks (these stick to your feet with sweat like a 2nd skin an prevent blisters). my feet are weak so i'm all over stuff like that <laugh>

I ****ing knew thats why you had donated £11. Anyone else out there fancy raising the stakes? Anyone?

LR - How'd you mean doing it in one? Are you saying you're not sleeping? I'm up for a bit of that, I assumed others would want to sleep which is why I bothered about the sleeping bag. You'd still need one incase you get lost.
