I just think they are hamstrung by something. Something is stopping us getting these deals done. Whether it’s clubs being ****e with us. The PL watching over out shoulder. Money tap being turned off. Or something else I don’t know. Even the club communication has dried up to a large extent. You click on social media you can see there is a growing amount of confusion and concern as out the lack of investment in forward areas. But they don’t have to respond I suppose. Maybe Howe has said to the owners he is happy with what he has. Since he came in we have signed 1 GK 4 defenders 1 midfielder and 1 striker. Our problem area was defending. YET he keeps our captain as Lascelles?
I'd be happy that we've started very well with two decent transfer windows. The January we had, plus Howe's brilliant input obviously, swapped our bottom two form in the first half of the season to top four form in the second half of the season. That turnaround broke Premier League records. Our defence imo could be up there with the best we've known - with our 1990's back four. We've an England goalkeeper and right back - the others can't be that far away from international standard (sounds like I'm entering the deluded zone so I'll leave my faith in them there). Imo we already have one of the best midfielders in Europe, but I'm a tad disappointed we haven't signed an even more clinical attacking midfielder alongside him - ie Paqueta. Ok we haven't signed a reliable goal scorer. Wilson imo is half a season at best unless he plays less frequently, and we don't have that young striker to come in and do some game time. We do have Wood, who I feel does a job but won't score loads himself. Our present team will definitely see us in the top half of the league. Not many will take six points off next season. I think if injuries are average we could get top eight. I would hope for a bit better than that, top six and to be properly mad, a cup.
Social media? Hardly the place to set our standards. Growing confusion and concern? Really? I've said it in previous windows and I'll say it again. The time to judge a transfer windows success or not is at the end of the window. Now can all the bedwetting just join The Bedwetters Anonymous Group and make sure they attend each session at least until the transfer window shuts.
I think ggs right about being hamstrung and it's most likely a block on sponsorships they submitted hence the legal employment. Anyone thinking the enemy has rolled over need think again... 18 months to go through, but they didn't stop there.
Hampered yes. Hamstrung no. If you remember it was worked out that we could spend up to £195M due to Ashley's frugal policies without a concern about FFP. We ain't got there yet and we do have one new sponsor as well.
Also the transfer window is extended this time. We could be in a situation where we may be buying players late which is fine. I just feel like something is not quite as it should be and I don’t think it’s the owners. I think the PL have their dirty mittens all over our commercial deals. I am convinced.
I’m not panicking. I just find it strange. I think something is holding us up. And that something I believe to be the PL. I reckon they are holding back on signing off our commercial deals. Slowing is down.
Yes, but they don't want to gamble the clubs future before getting the sponsorship on place. I'm sure they'll bring one or two in there's really nothing to worry or not like atm. A few years and people will think they should've just enjoyed the journey.
Mine isn’t either. But I think there is plenty of wiggle room here. Who knows. We are still in a strange place where players may also be willing to come but their clubs either don’t want to sell or they are just pushing the NUFC transfer tax card. I am sure there are deals to be had still.
the Saudi tap hasn’t been slowed down or turned off at all. kust wait and you be pleased by the start of the season.
Maybe not but they can’t keep ploughing money in without the club generating it’s own. So hear off field appointments are there to do that. It’s still very early days. I think we may get one more in before the window shuts and I have said before if we do and that player is an upgrade then the window goes from a good one to an excellent one. The commercial deals is the thing that needs to start happening and the PL are all over us like a wet pair of yellow chinos.
Not at all. But there is a fine line and need to be careful not to be seen as a club that is awkward to do business with. it’s all hypothetical as no one knows the finer details. We haven’t paid over the odds for players and we seem to be very good in the market last 4/5 years, but we also seem to have got good relationships with clubs which helps. Bayern for example, there was lots of nice stuff said when we got thiago from them, and it means when it came to selling mane, both clubs had that good relationship and meant negotiations were a lot easier. Similar with Fulham. We’ve effectively got 2 of their most promising youngsters from them for nothing, but instead of going to tribunal and forcing a low value, we’ve paid that little bit extra to keep relationships healthy, given them a loan player in the mean time etc. same with RBL, weve got Keita and Konate from them last few years, built up a good relationship with them, played them in friendlies etc. I wouldn’t say we particularly overpaid and obviously there was some negotiations but Liverpool are known to be a good club to deal with atm. on other hand you always hear how spurs and levy were horrible to negotiate with when selling and buying players because so stubborn and that has to have an impact when going back to the club to try buy someone. Like I say, Fine like between just giving clubs what they want, and being so stubborn you become awkward to deal with.
Where is all this panic happening? Twatter? I'm chilled as ****. They know exactly what they are doing and I'm happy with that.
The commercial stuff is going to take time. The point is more on two fronts - if we are being backed to succeed, the numbers are an awful long way from, say, the golf stuff. But it’s the players we seem to be interested in and the gulf between those players and what we will pay. No doubt there’s more blockers being put up - that doesn’t surely stop us being better at the whole business of recruiting.
