These 3 friendlies, despite giving most players a good run out, have shown the glaring absence in our squad. Someone with the ability to score goals. Even if we have an excellent midfield we still need a player capable of finishing the moves. With all due respect to Watters and Harris, neither of them are that man. Maybe one of the younger players is ear marked for the job, but as we often say - one for the future. Unfortunately the future is now and a recognised striker is needed. Who can also become a figurehead and mentor in that role for the young guns. I think it was Clingo who said earlier that many Championship clubs are in the same boat as us. I have seen that too. That being the case Morison needs to pull his finger out and get someone in sharpish. I'm not sure a young loaner from a Prem club would be right so perhaps he is looking abroad. Hope we get a positive outcome soon.
As it stands likely. That defence particularly trying to play from back doesnt make me confident on clean sheets and I dont see where the goals will come from. But I think we will see at least 3 incoming and hopefully thats enough not to get us involved in a real scrap. Weve been a big physical side for years playing direct and I do worry about suddenly playing a passing game from the back particularly when at the moment I cant see where the goals are coming from. If we finish mid table and improve the style with what has been a massive rebuild then id say its a hugely successful season. Id take safe and improved football. We need 2 strikers though at a minimum.
I think we'll see a massive change in style - whether it will be effective from the off is the conudrum. It will all depend on how early (if?) it comes off. Morison will love the competition for places he's creating and he won't be afraid of change things if it isn't. A mid table finish would seem likely given the massive upheaval at the club, but I don't think that's even in Morison's thoughts right now. I said on another thread he appears to be very ambitious and could take a sort of **** or bust approach. If we're mid table and comfortable come the New Year, he'll expect to be challenging for a top 6 finish by the end of the season.
Our friend Scott Johnson at WoL has come up with a list of strikers he thinks we should be looking at. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar Taking into account the stages of their careers and ages none of Grabban, Wells and Carroll are particularly attractive. Maja has been rumoured before. I know nothing about Loader other than what is in the article. I see 2 trialists (no names) scored in the under 21's 10.1 win over the mighty Bromley.
I see the Under 23's have a game at Hereford on Sunday. May go and have a look at that, if I haven't had enough after the game at Swindon on Saturday
I never usually read this blokes columns as I find them unnecessary and this latest is unsurprisingly the same. Anyone could find out the names of some random strikers. Unsure why the Western Mail use him when Glen etc are there?
"Cardiff City season ticket holder Scott Johnson is our Cardiff City fan columnist. Scott is a regular contributor on the View From the Ninian website and has written two books on the club, Cardiff City: Rebranded and The Blues Are Up, covering their 2013 promotion."
Will that be our starting line up next week? Fair chance it will be. City switched off to concede 2 soft goals though.
Four goals scored and a completely dominant first half according to reports. Took the foot off the pedal second half in view of the upcoming start of serious business. Just scored the fourth to eliminate any fears of a reversal. Good outcome for us and home support not humiliated. I'm sure we'd have been even more ruthless had there been anything riding on the game Bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobirds
So that's where he's going................ https://trainingground.guru/articles/cardiff-city-academy-manager-hughes-joins-manchester-united
